The Story of AMVCA

After more than a decade of delivering top-notch entertainment to African audiences, MultiChoice took a bold step to amplify the continent's film sector. Thus, the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) was born, honoring exceptional achievements in television and film.

The inaugural AMVCA ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria, on March 9, 2013, and captivated audiences in over 50 countries with its live broadcast. Leading the pack with 14 nominations was the South African film "Otelo Burning," closely followed by Nigeria's "The Mirror Boy" and "Man on Ground."

Over the years, the number of award categories has expanded from 26 in 2013 to a current total of 33.

Presently, attending the ceremony and experiencing its captivating allure has become a coveted aspiration for entertainment enthusiasts, industry professionals, and esteemed individuals in society. It serves as a platform to acknowledge and honor outstanding achievements within Africa's film sector for the respective year.
