My Top 5 Season 1

Nez Long, one of the Zed’s most passionate musicians who is all about people and lifting their spirits, joined us on Zambezi Magic’s Facebook page last week for a fun chat about his career, as well as the My Top 5 episode he appeared on. In case you’ve been living under a rock, My Top 5 airs every Saturday at 20:00hrs, right here on Zambezi Magic DStv Channel 162 and GOtv Channel 5.

During the live chat, Nez Long shared a lot about himself and how he hopes to make an impact on Zambia’s youth. He also spoke fondly of his mother and told the story of how she was one of the main pillars of his early days in the music industry and hired him for an album production job for a youth group.

We learned a lot of new and fascinating things about this talented musician. Here are some of them:

Q:  What are your real names?

A: My real names are Martin Nkosana Moyo. I am Tonga by tribe.

Q: Are you married?

A: I am “married to the money”! But I am in a really serious relationship.

Q: What is your net worth?

A: I cannot disclose my net worth, but I am heavy. I can afford everything I need at this point in my life.

Q: How long have you been in the music industry?
A: I have been in the music industry for over 10 years, but I have been in the limelight for five years. Half pushing and half trying in the spotlight.

Q: Do you have intentions of venturing into the fashion business?

A: You read my mind! I am thinking of starting something at the beginning of next year as I prepare to give you my first solo album.

Q: What was your inspiration for getting into the entertainment business?

A: I was born in a family of people who love music. I found myself in this industry because of the passion I have for the art, then I realised I was actually making money out of this. I then thought I could commercialise it on a larger scale.

Q: Who are your role models locally and internationally?

A: In human form, the people that inspire me are the likes of Kanye West. He has been a trend-setter since the moment he came on the scene. Even at the worst moments of his life and career he still stayed relevant, and he was always big. Locally, it just so happens to be people who I work with, the likes of Slap Dee and amongst others, my friend Bobby. That boy is a smart dude and a deep thinker! I like how Slap operates and he’s always trying to put people on.

Q: What can you say to someone who is on the verge of giving up in life?

A: I must say you are not allowed to give up on your own life. It’s only God who decides when he is going to take your life. If you are still alive, you are alive for a purpose. I lost my mum in 2018 and during that time I was crushed, but I also had my first successful hit song. Don’t give up!

Q: How do you handle backlash?

A: Backlash depends on what point its coming from. If people don’t believe in what I am doing in that moment, it doesn’t mean everybody doesn’t believe. The music that was not received by the majority doesn’t make it any less good, because there’s always a minority who love a certain type of sound; and being able to make music just for them makes you a great artist.
