News

The tricks of the trade that gave the show a perfect host.
Proverb on Idols

For 13 consecutive years, ProVerb has displayed some impressive chops as the host of Idols SA. Real name Tebogo Sidney Thapelo Thekisho, the multi-hyphenate media personality first burst onto the Idols stage on the show’s sixth season.

Then known mainly for being one of the country’s most lauded rappers, ProVerb soon won favour with audiences, who rallied for him to remain on the show. And just like that, the perfect host was born!

With a portfolio that boasts such titles as a published author, respected public speaker, and a master of ceremonies, it’s not hard to see why the wordsmith will have stayed with the show until the final moment of the farewell season. With a smooth cadence and a breeze of authenticity, ProVerb has been able to calm the contestants, play their hype man, and keep viewers excited about every episode.

Here is a list of five things we respect about ProVerb.

The real one

Authenticity is one of ProVerb’s greatest strengths, and it shows. Throughout the years on Idols SA, the host with the most has been loved for always keeping it real. Whether the Wooden Mic hopefuls return backstage with dashed dreams, or a rising star has received a Golden Ticket, ProVerb always keeps it real without compromising on kindness.

The comedian

To do this, a sense of humour and an impeccable comic flair is essential. Imagine dealing with so many emotions in the pursuit of dreams? Luckily, the ‘Blessed & Highly Favoured’ hitmaker is effortlessly witty. It disarms even the most pressured situations.

The big brother

Oh, he’s the familiar face and voice to hold the hands of the contestants as they navigate the tough scapes of dream-chasing. A smile helps, and ProVerb has thoses in buckets.

The hypeman

As the season progresses, it’s unusual for the going to start getting tough. However, the rapper, who also boasts credits as co-producers on the popular show, is not new to this! We’ve paid enough attention to realise that he treats every contestant like they are already a winner. ithout fail, one of them will end up being the winner.

The ProVerb

The young bird does not crow until it hears the old ones. — Tswana proverb. ProVerb has set the pace for many dreamers to fly.
