Singing with the stars – Idols SA

"Those who have gone before are the ones who can show the path."
Former Idols article

It was a reunion of note this weekend when the Idols SA live shows kicked off for this season. The show went back to its old home at Mosaiek Teatro while also welcoming former Idols SA contestants to the stage.

The saying goes, "Those who have gone before are the ones who can show the path" and this was translated beautifully when the ladies, as the ones to take on the lives first, were given the amazing opportunity to work and sing with the stars that know this journey all too well.

Assigned the honour of singing with Yanga, Lungile saw it fit to give her music the flowers it deserves. Authenticity is the first thing that comes to her mind: Yanga has never tried to be anyone but herself. Faith swiftly moved to touch on the powerhouse that she is. “The energy she has, the colour she has in her voice, that is really beautiful and something that I can unison with,” he said.

We live in a world where there’s definitely a song or dance challenge that takes you back to Covid days and for Neve, that’s Paxton’s 2020 release ‘Undeniable’, accompanied by its TikTok dance challenge that she had to take part in, every single day! Apart from how quickly her music will get you moving, Envic loves how meaningful it is as well.

Put Musa and originality together and you won’t have anyone looking at you sideways. This was Nkosi’s first impression of his music. It’s also heartfelt and amazing how quickly it puts you in your feels. Speaking of feels, Princess echoed the same sentiments while also singing his hit song ‘Mthande’ to drive this beautiful point across.

She is easy to love and her presence adds to the magic. That is Mmatema, the powerhouse that graced our screens during the eleventh season of Idols SA. Niikiey shared the stage with her and watching how she makes people feel what she’s doing was simply enough to show her what a star she is. Thabo resonates with her music at any point but especially in this journey that he’s on.

Star power is all the energy we love but, having amazing storytelling in your music will have us rolling on the floor deliriously in love and Lloyiso has had that on lock. Sena is the lady that got to belt it out with him on stage and her takeaway and favourite part of it all was watching his ability to make people feel like they are part of the stories he tells in every song.

He can explore different sounds but retain the beauty every single time. Karabo made his way back to where it all started for him eight years ago and continued to make everyone nod in admiration. Lungile adores his versatility, while his unique voice along with his approach to a song left Thando in awe.

They came, dropped pearls of wisdom, sang their pipes out, and reminded us of how iconic Idols SA is for introducing us to this talent.

Idols SA airs every Saturday at 18:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161), thereafter on Mzansi Wethu (DStv channel 163) at 19:30.
