A tribute to Tesmin-Robyn – Idols SA

As is going to be par for the course over the remainder of the season, we’ve got to bid another Idols SA contestant farewell.

Sunday brought us the reveal of the Idols SA Top 8, which means that one of the nine finalists – Tesmin-Robyn, in this case – was told that she would be leaving the competition. As has become something of a tradition, we think it’s time we take a quick look at her time on our screens. This was not Tesmin-Robyn’s first Idols SA rodeo – she competed in the competition last year. For brevity’s sake, however, we’ll focus on her appearance during season 18, only.

Obviously, she managed to impress the judges with her initial audition, and it’s not hard to see why:

Following that, she was paired with a contestant who did manage to be named as one of the Top 8, CeeJay. Their duet was more than enough to get both through to the following stage of Theatre Week:

Theatre Week is a doozy of a contest, though. A great duet wins you nothing more than a requirement to perform again, and Tesmin-Robyn threw down this solo performance to earn herself a spot in the Top 12:

Having established herself as one of the finalists going into the Live Show phase of the season, it was time for audiences to get to know her better:

The first two live shows saw the finalists partnered up with established South African artists, and Tesmin-Robyn’s partner was the great Boohle. This was their duet:

Having delivered that diet, it was – once again – time for her to take the stage alone and impress the judges with her solo skills:

It’s worth fast-forwarding, here, to skip to some material you probably haven’t had a chance to see, but – if you want to see all her performances for the season – here are her performances from the two weeks preceding her elimination:

On Sunday, Tesmin-Robyn could not have known whether she was going to be eliminated, so she had to go through the rehearsal effort, and we’ve got a look at her dress rehearsal, right here:

Of course, Tesmin-Robyn never got to perform that song for a live audience, having been eliminated at the end of Sunday’s show. We spoke to her the next day to get a sense of what she would be taking away from her participation in this year’s show:

And that’s it – Tesmin-Robyn’s time on season 18 of Idols SA has come to an end. There are still eight contestants left, and one of them will be the ultimate winner, depending on how you allocate your votes. Tune in this Sunday for what has proven to be a highlight of past seasons, the Showstopper episode, when the contestants will be trying to bring down the house.
