Shake, rattle & roll up to movies on your TV, with DStv BoxOffice

September’s movies are unchained, off the hook and all shook up! From the latest Elvis movie to fun family animation like Lightyear and Minions: The Rise Of Gru, you can transform your house into the ultimate South African cinema, every night with DStv BoxOffice.

BoxOffice has so many off-the-wall, based-on-real-life (ish) stories to keep you entertained. See Nic Cage playing Nick Cage! See a father catfish his son! See Zimbabwe’s real-life wine tasting team head for victory in France! And see it all on BoxOffice.

To find your crazy stories, just cue up a movie on BoxOffice and stream it directly through the DStv platform, using your DStv Explora or Explora Ultra. Instead of braving the cold, the crowds, the popcorn prices, the parking perils, and the long road home, you could bask in the warm glow of fresh big-screen movies right now, on your own TV.

Read on for this month’s highlights and your quick and easier-than-ever guide making every night Movie Night with DStv BoxOffice… it’s an epic September.

The one to book!

Elvis

Shake what your mama gave you. Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) tells his story, from his rural, fatherless childhood of poverty and church tent revivals, to becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s, and his grimy, drug-addled end. It’s all seen through the eyes of his manipulative and brilliant manager, “Colonel” Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).

On BoxOffice from Tuesday, 13 September

Spectacular September BoxOffice movies

I Love My Dad

Have you ever blocked a family member on Facebook and received an immediate Whatsapp from them to complain about it? Hoo boy. After Franklin (James Morosini) blocks his dad Chuck (Patton Oswalt) on social media, Chuck finally steps up to “get to know” the son he has been mostly ignoring his whole life… by catfishing him online. This movie’s writer, star and director James Morosini based this outrageous comedy on his experiences with his own father.

On BoxOffice from Wednesday, 7 September

Blind Ambition

The documentary follows four Zimbabwean men – Marlvin Gwese, Joseph Tongai Dhafana, Tinashe Nyamudoka, and Pardon Tagazu – who find work in Cape Town as sommeliers (wine servers). They go on to form Zimbabwe’s first-ever team to compete in the 2017 World Blind Tasting Championships in France. Tipped off by world-famous wine journalist Jancis Robinson, Australian Documentary filmmakers Warwick Ross and Rob Coe start their story about a month before the Championships.

On BoxOffice from Friday, 9 September

The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent

Nicolas Cage plays actor Nick Cage as one of his many iconic roles. Nick is caught between a super-rich, super-evil superfan Javi (Pedro Pascal), who’s paying him to attend his birthday party in a gig agreed to by Nick’s agent (played by Neil Patrick Harris), and a CIA agent and fellow superfan, Vivian (Tiffany Haddish). It’s the ultimate, unmissable, bizarre spy/buddy action comedy.

On BoxOffice from Friday, 9 September

Minions: The Rise Of Gru

Animation. Awww, it’s little itty bitty 12-year-old Felonious Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), and you won’t even have to suit up to see him… but you could! See how this supervillain wanna-be got hold of his greatest ever weapon on his path to world domination – the Minions. And watch as the Minions band together to learn skills from the world’s great masters so that they can rescue their own master when Gru is kidnapped by Wild Knuckles (voiced by Alan Arkin), the supposedly dead head of league of evil The Vicious Six.

On BoxOffice from Monday, 19 September

Lightyear

This animation is the story of the bold Space Ranger whose adventures in Infinity and Beyond inspired the toy range. Lost in space and time while attempting to return to Earth, Ranger Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans) and his crew do battle with the robot army commanded by evil Emperor Zurg (voiced by James Brolin), who’s sent them to snatch Buzz & co’s energy source.

On BoxOffice from Friday, 30 September

Top Gun: Maverick

Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise) has spent 30 years living his dream as one of the Navy’s top aviators, pushing the envelope as a test pilot and dodging promotion the way he once dodged missiles. But while he’s training a new batch of TOPGUN graduates, much to the displeasure of the big boss, Vice Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson (Jon Hamm), he’s forced to confront the ghosts from his past. Rejoice, for Val Kilmer returns as Pete’s former nemesis-turned-boss and protector, Iceman.
