Hell Week started as soon as the bus bringing the contestants from the airport came to a halt outside the Sun City Hotel.

But unbeknownst to the contestants in the first bus they were only half of the Hell Week contingent. As they divided themselves into groups and started to rehearse their group performances in the Sun City Entertainment Centre, a second group arrived at the hotel to go through the same process, and to secretly start rehearsing the exact same songs.

The next day was a North vs. South showdown as the groups from the two different teams performed the same songs for Idols judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Msengana and Gareth Cliff. And by the end of the day only 31 of them had survived to compete in the final Sun City performance.
