Nolwazi (33) and Calvin (37) knew each other for several years before they decided to date. She’s actually best friends with Calvin’s counsin.

How they met:

Calvin was visiting family in eMadadeni in 2005 and the family happened to host a Christmas lunch, which Nolwazi was invited to. “My mom called me later that day, saying I should return home because it was getting late. Calvin offered to drive me home, and that’s how we met,” Nolwazi explained.

Elaborating, she said he didn’t say much along the way, except for asking for her number when he dropped her off. “What attracted me most was her smile. We would chat every now and then after this,” he said.

Nolwazi admitted she was still a bit young and wasn’t really into dating at that time but also mentioned that she started being interested in him, as they continued to chat even more over the years.

In 2014 she called him asking if she could visit him and was pleasantly surprised by his hospitality when she arrived.

Challenges:

The couple lives apart. Nolwazi lives in Newcastle while Calvin lives in Johannesburg. This makes it makes it difficult sometimes because we don’t get to spend as much time as we’d like, but we do arrange frequent visits,” she said.

To our pleasant surprise, we learnt that Calvin was the one who contacted the #OurPerfectWedding crew. “I wanted to show how special she is to me and also share our big day with the rest of the country,” he said.
