What better way to wrap up the weekend than with brilliant jokes, witty banter, and rip-roaring laughter? Soon, Sunday nights will be for comedy, as Mzansi Magic presents its edgy new show, Mzansi Comedy Nights, premiering on 29 January at 21h00.

Hosted by Skhumba and Trevor Gumbi, the one-of-a-kind stand-up comedy series sees talented and brilliant young comedians take to the stage to perform a standup set in front of a live audience.

The twist? Backstage, they are being watched and rated by fellow comedians as well as the hosts, who will all give their feedback once the performance is over – in the form of a roast. It’s a performance appraisal… but brutally funny. This one’s not for the kids!

“It’s been a tough couple of years for the country, and while television won’t fix our problems, it’s a powerful antidote in darker times. That’s why Mzansi Magic is bringing back the funny on Sundays with Mzansi Comedy Nights, which features some of the country’s top well-known comedians, as well as a newer generation on the come up,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.

She concludes: “Sometimes we need laughter to get us through, and we hope that our audiences love watching this show as much as the creatives enjoyed putting it together.”

Filmed at the Prison Break Market in Midrand, Mzansi Comedy Nights will air 10 hour-long episodes – and no two episodes will be the same. So be sure to catch it all!

If you love comedy and would like to watch the joker become the butt of the joke, tune in to Mzansi Comedy Nights on Sundays at 21h00 from 29 January, only on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
