Season 15 auditions at the home of two consecutive winners were nothing short of golden talent!

Radio powerhouse, The Bigdawg aka DJ Fresh joined Judges Randall, Somizi and Unathi on the panel this past Sunday. “I need to hear you sing with my eyes closed and hear that this is a star, that is a diamond!” is how Fresh summed up what he was expecting from the Mother City so the bar was set high!

Software developer, Luyolo Yiba, 24, from East London, King William's Town travelled an insanely long distance in a bid to become the next South African Idol and prove to anyone in doubt that he can sing!! He serenaded everyone with John Legend’s, 'You and I' and bagged four yeses and a trip to Theatre Week 2019. It must have been so gratifying for Luyolo to travel that far and not come up short.

Also vying for spot in Hell Week was 25-year-old Wanda Gqiyaza from Phillippi who said, “I like listening to music, it brings the passion back, it is that fresh cup of coffee for me”. Things got even sweeter for this lucky contestant when he got randomly selected for a Telkom makeover and if you weren't paying close attention when he first walked in, you probably wouldn’t recognise him after the transformation. The fact he scored a Golden Ticket soon after was the cherry on top!

For those who dare forget, Somizi is a world renowned choreographer so before Thandokazi belted out 'Hurt', by Christina Aguilera, she was taught how to dance like an African, and boy-oh-boy did she nail just before getting a Golden Ticket to go with her new moves. Not everyone was coping well with being put on the spot however and we somes take it for granted just how much courage it takes to stand on the logo and showcase your talent. Several contestants were overcome by nerves with one in particular breaking down in tears mid-performance before walking straight into a lighting rig!

Then along came returnee, Zia Fielies. Now 19 years old, she was only 16 when she first auditioned for Idols back in Season 1. She touched on her personal growth and how badly she wants to use her gift to dominate and WIN Idols Season 15 before slaying her audition and get the stamp of approval from the Judges.

Show host, Proverb also hit up Port Elizabeth to hand deliver Golden Tickets for the Telkom Pop-Up audition's finest singers. The individuals that received the surprise visits couldn't have been more excited and fired up about the prospects of going straight to Theatre Week and it was joy to behold.

This coming Sunday, Idols SA Season 15 auditions come to a close in dramatic fashion as Joburg take centre stage. Stay tuned for all the juicy details!
