20 Gold Ones in the Bag for KZN! – Idols SA

News
16 July 2019
The Durban auditions were a theatre of comebacks, chasing dreams and contagious laughs!
Twins

Unathi, Somizi and Randall together with the Guest Judge, Vusi Nova, were in for a treat when Durbs delivered an avalanche of great talent.

It didn’t take long for eThekwini to show the world what is has in store for South Africa in Season 15. Melanin, 20, from Newcastle got to explain a few words from Somgaga’s dictionary, words such as noisication, zagazaga and jivontional. She didn’t even have to sing a second stanza for the Judges to spot her effortless talent. She didn’t only get the meanings right, but managed to get the first Golden Ticket for the day which sent her straight to Theatre Week!

Next was a contestant we can honestly call the queen of comebacks. Nqobile fainted after her audition went south back in Season 12 but she overcame her stage fright and nailed Rihanna’s, 'Love On The Brain'. That her name literally means winner and she walked off the stage victorious make this moment all-the-more special! Unathi and Somizi were particularlt impressed and recalled thinking she couldn’t sing when they first met her three years ago.

The killer voices kept coming with Harrison Mkhize, a 24-year-old teacher from KwaMashu who got a Golden Ticket and wants to chase his dreams. SA will have to wait and see if Mkhize will emulate Season 12 Idols winner, Noma Khumalo and show Mzansi that KZN's teachers have inspiring gifts over and above their efforts in the classroom!

– And there was Snenhlanhla aka Snezeiy, 24, from Umlazi whose laugh was so contagious that she got everybody feeling giddy and giggling uncontrollably. Her incredible talent left everyone floored too as she belted out Amanda Black’s, 'Kahle' with the most jovial expression on her face. In the end, it was four yeses for this natural born performer!

Sweet and soft-spoken, Angel honoured Guest Judge, Vusi Nova, when she nailed his song, 'Ndikuthandile' and by so doing left Somizi speechless and Unathi longing for more. Vusi was also pleased that the KwaZulu-Natal local delivered a memorable rendition in his presence.

Just as the Durban auditions were about to wrap, SA witnessed twin sisters, Viggy and Virginia (both 21 years of age) hitting the stage with a tight–knit duet that convinced all four Judges that they should be given a one-way ticket to Theatre Week! Ultimately, this year's auditions eThekwini were a reminder that no matter the odds, everyone should chase their dreams and keep rising to fight again even after falling.

With just over 20 golden tickets, South Africa will have to wait and see what the home of two, previous Idols winners will bring to Theatre Week 2019. Keep wtaching!
