If you want a show that blazes trails, pushes envelopes, and takes you to the edge, HBO is sure to deliver. In recent years they’ve placed their eggs in the baskets of creative geniuses behind shows like Veep, Avenue 5, Barry, Boardwalk Empire, The White Lotus, and let’s not forget the show that ushered in the Golden Age of Television: The Sopranos. Another of these illustrious titles is Succession: the Dynasty of premiere television.

Succession is the brainchild of Jesse Armstrong. It follows the wealthy Roy family and all the mess and melodrama that comes with holding a tight-fisted grip on their media empire. The impressive roster of actors includes Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Alexander Skarsgård. Since the show’s start in 2018 until its final season in 2023, it has raked up numerous awards, from Emmys to Golden Globes, for writing, acting, and directing.

While it has drama in buckets and spades, the dark humour keeps us just as glued to the screen. Lines like “You don’t hear much about syphilis these days. Very much the MySpace of STDs” and “What I think he meant to say was that he wished that Mom gave birth to a can opener, because at least then it would be useful” put us in mind of the scathing wit that made us love shows like Veep and Barry. But what also made these shows stand out, and that includes Succession, was the characters. When you feel even a glimmer of pity for characters you should be hating, well … that’s good writing.

Now we hear you say, “I haven't watched Succession yet”. Well, in the words of High Fidelty's Rob, the word "yet" means "you're going to do it". And M-Net is giving you the chance to do it, because all four seasons of Succession are coming your way. So put on your big binge pants and watch Succession seasons 1 – 4 every Monday to Friday at 22:00 on M-Net, starting Monday 6 November. Take a peek at season 1 below.
