Update: Krugersdorp Killers Sentencing

Finally an end to one of the most bizarre murder trials South Africa has ever seen. On Monday last week, Judge Ellem Francis handed down sentencing to the last three members of the notorious Krugersdorp Killers. But for the investigators, it was the sentencing of mastermind Cecilia Steyn that was the biggest victory.

Guilty as charged – in what the judge called a religious scam, manipulation and deadly deceit convinced a Krugersdorp mother and her teenaged children they were killing for God. In a Carte Blanche exclusive we meet the investigating officer who cracked the case of the notorious Krugersdorp Killers. Together with the seasoned detective we revisit the crime scenes, examine the forensics and find out how he secured the six convictions that were handed down by Judge Francis in the Gauteng High Court this week. In a television first, we also bring you never-before-seen footage of the arrests, and finally speak to victims’ families who have waited more than three years for justice.

Having adjourned for the year, the Krugersdorp Murder Trial has seen evidence led on the identity and mental health of the alleged mastermind, Cecilia Steyn. Steyn befriended high school teacher and mother-of-two Marinda Steyn, currently serving 11 life sentences and an extra 115 years in prison for the 11 murders she confessed to. Carte Blanche speaks to Cecilia Steyn’s parents about what could have happened in her childhood that might have laid the ground for her alleged position as mastermind of one of the country’s most bizarre killing sprees.

In June this year, high school teacher and mother-of-two Marinda Steyn pleaded guilty to eleven murders, and received eleven life sentences, plus an additional 115 years in prison.
