Nthabii chats about friendship with Mpho, missing the Top 10, and the kiss that could cost her a boyfriend…

Nthabii is kicked out of the Big Brother Mzansi House

With just 4 weeks left to go in Big Brother Mzansi Season 3, the stakes are high. In the race for a place in the Top 10, the nominated Housemates were holding their breath at the Sunday Live eviction ceremony. And it was Limpopo-born student-athlete Nthabiseng Mothutsi, also known as Nthabii, who was eliminated.

Nthabii joined Big Brother Mzansi as a Bombshell Contestant, arriving 7 days after the other Housemates. Other than tackling each challenge head-on, the netball player quickly forged a friendship with Mphowabadimo, and the 2 women would be seen plotting and laughing together, which is the main reason that Nthabii was nominated for eviction. The other Housemates believed that she was too close to Mpho therefore, the bosom buddies needed to be separated.

Speaking to us a day after her elimination, Nthabii explains that she has made peace with leaving the House. “What surprised me most about my time in the House is that there were different personalities and that was overwhelming,” explains 27-year-old Nthabii, before adding “To make matters worse, I arrived a week later than after everyone, which didn’t make things easier. Seeing everyone gorgeous, beautiful, and outspoken was a shock for my system, I won’t lie but I wouldn’t change anything about my time in the Big Brother Mzansi House. I had a ball.”

Nthabii shares her experience in the House and her friendship with Mpho.

Nthabii gave Big Brother Mzansi her best shot

How did being a Bombshell affect your journey in the House?

“I look at it from 2 perspectives. The first is that arriving late in the House could’ve affected my journey in a negative way, in that I was thrown into the deep end. The other Housemates had already formed bonds and I had to catch up with everyone, which is something that could’ve set me back. On the other hand, being a Bombshell could’ve also been positive as I was new to the House, someone who added a fresh perspective to the competition. I chose to look at the positive side.”

As a Big Brother Mzansi superfan, what were your expectations before entering the show?

“I had high expectations, let’s start there. Watching the show and living in the House are completely different. [Because I’d watched the show before], I thought that I’d easily cope with the challenges thrown at me and suppress my emotions but that wasn’t always the case. When you’re in the Housemate, you live in the moment, which is why the Housemates get easily emotional. Being a Housemate is a 1-of-a-kind experience.”

You were close with Mpho. Do you think that hindered you from forming other friendships and alliances in the House?

“Not at all. I was still open to creating more friendships. I believe that people [such as Venus] who think that I was closed off didn’t approach me. They’d already judged me based on my friendship with Mpho. At the same time, I made other friendships, [although they weren’t as strong].”

Describe your friendship with Mpho. How did you get so close?

“I didn’t think I’d meet someone like her in the House. I don’t even remember how we became friends. I guess it’s because she was kind and easy to talk to. I also found her calling as a sangoma fascinating as I’d never encountered a sangoma before. I overlooked and misjudged traditional healers and sangomas before I met her and having to live with one was intriguing. I was interested in her story. When I spoke to her for the first time, it was an easy conversation, and I found a sister in her. I’m going to miss our crazy moments.”

In your exit interview with Big Brother Mzansi host Lawrence Maleka, you motioned that you have a boyfriend and in the House, you kissed Themba. How do you think that your boyfriend is going to react?

“I don’t know if my boyfriend watched the show but if he didn’t, it’s only fair that I tell him and allow him to decide whether he wants to continue dating or not. I would understand if he [was upset] and didn’t want to continue dating me. I don’t regret what I did with Themba. It was my experience in the House. I’ll just have to wait and see how my boyfriend reacts and I’ll take it from there.”

What did you learn about yourself?

“I’m compassionate. In most cases, I’d put myself in other Housemates’ shoes and make their lives easier without compromising my feelings. On the “outside”, I would’ve disregarded my feelings [to make someone feel better about themself]. I’ve truly learnt to be a better person through the Housemates.”

What’s next for you?

“I need to get back in shape and start playing netball again while I wait for doors to open. Once the opportunities arise, I’ll see which direction to take and what excites me. I also would like to talk to Housemates from past seasons of Big Brother Mzansi to get guidance and clarity. I’m going to continue consulting with a psychologist because I don’t want to find myself drowning and fading in the fame and popularity that comes with the show. Basically, I’d like to do big things, and I can’t wait to start.”
