A former world champion. A hungry challenger. A title on the line.

Kevin "Two Guns" Lerena returns to the division where he made his name, promising nothing less than an all-out war against Scotland’s Scott "Furious" Forrest at Knockout Chaos 3: The Return this Saturday, 7 November at 7PM on SuperSport Africa channel 208.

For Lerena, the return to cruiserweight gives the next chapter of his career a clear purpose.

“It’s feels really good, I needed a really hard goal and I wanted a full circle moment. So for the last half of my career I want to campaign at cruiserweight to be world champion one more time,” he says.

Lerena won the IBO Cruiserweight World Championship in 2017 and successfully defended it seven times before moving up through heavyweight and bridgerweight. He later claimed the WBC Bridgerweight World Championship and faced elite opposition, including Daniel Dubois, Lawrence Okolie and Ryad Merhy.

His most recent outing, against Merhy in May, ended in a unanimous decision defeat and the loss of his bridgerweight title. But the setback has only strengthened his resolve.

“It made me hungry, it made me realise that complacency has no place in my life, that’s why gearing up for cruiserweight is so important for me.”

At 34, Lerena now begins his renewed cruiserweight campaign on home soil, but Forrest is unlikely to make the journey easy.

Forrest, 32, was born in Johannesburg before moving to Scotland at the age of five. He brings an impressive amateur résumé, having won nine national titles, competed for Team GB and represented Scotland at two Commonwealth Games. He also boasts World Championship experience and a Youth Olympic Games bronze medal.

With eight wins, three defeats and five knockouts as a professional, Forrest has the opportunity to secure the biggest victory of his career by defeating a former world champion.

Lerena expects an aggressive challenge. The South African is a southpaw, while Forrest fights orthodox, setting up an intriguing clash of styles.

“He is strong and aggressive. He has a come forward style just like me so they can expect an all out war,” Lerena says.

For Lerena, this is the beginning of another championship journey. For Forrest, it is an opportunity to upset a former world champion and make a defining statement of his own.

With a title on the line, an eagerly anticipated Silverman-Pypers showdown and a supporting card full of South African talent, Knockout Chaos 3: The Return promises an exciting night of boxing.

SuperSport brings all the action live from the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 7 November, with coverage starting at 7PM on SS Africa DStv channel 208.
