Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap Season 2 struts onto our streams

Coming to DStv Stream as a binge, Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap Season 2 is a reality series that follows seven drag queens making their mark in Cape Town’s vibrant drag scene. The show continues from a very shady and dramatic first season, where tensions ran high and loyalties were constantly tested. In Season 2, the beef and shade are still very much alive and the question remains: where will it come from this time? Are the alliances still intact, or are new ones beginning to form?

Produced by Pop24, the creative minds behind The Mommy Club franchise, Tollie & Manila and Bae Beyond Borders, the series offers an unfiltered look into their world, from the hard work and preparation behind each performance to the personal trials, challenges and wins they experience along the way.

The larger-than-life cast includes multi-pageant winner Emogan Moore, Miss Sovereign Western Cape winner Ina Propriette, Miss Cape Town Pride winner Kat Gilardi, SA’s Got Talent runner-up and host of Tollie & Manila, Manila von Teez, Miss Gay Western Cape winner Maxine Wild, as well as rival house mothers BB Vahlour and television personality Madison Scarr.

We caught up with the ladies and they shared what being on Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap S2 means for them.

BB Vahlour

Although BB Vahlour has only been doing drag for a few years, she has become one of the rising stars in the industry. Not only is BB a drag queen, she is also one of three cast members who are trans women. “Returning for a second season feels like an opportunity to deepen the work we started and to grow alongside the audience and the 'characters' we are on the show," she said. "It is both an honour and a responsibility to keep the story authentic and true to ourselves, while also showing where our drag is in our lives now, what and who we represent and the importance of uniting all drag queens.”

Emogan Moore

Fabian van Schalkwyk, also known as Emogan Moore, does not hold back. When asked what viewers can look forward to on this season, he shared: “There is so much to look forward to this season, with many new and unexpected friendships forming… and way more lashes, wigs, garments, and drama.”

Ina Propriette

Wade Khoosal, also known as Ina Propriette, has been doing drag for seven years and has already been featured in Vogue. He feels like being on the show is another stepping stone to reaching even higher heights and is excited to be back for a second season.

“Returning for a second season means drag gets another moment at the forefront of the culture. It’s been a dry spell and I’m just extremely excited to have my art form be a beacon for our community because we seriously missed and needed this.”

Kat Gilardi

Carl Richards, also known as Kat Gilardi, is one of the most experienced queens in the cast. Having seen many come and go, he has managed to maintain real staying power in the industry.

Speaking about the surprises and if there are new dynamics this season, Kat shared, “Of course there are, major ones. You will see how some people reveal who they really are, but it should not come as a shock. They are simply showing you who they have been all along.”

Madison Scarr

Madison Scarr, who is also a trans woman, is excited for viewers to see more of her journey. “I'm excited for the audience to see the evolution in my trans journey and the personal challenges I've overcome, as well as the fun, playful moments I've had with growing my drag.”

Manila Von Teez

Veon Wentzel, also known as Manila Von Teez, says the show has changed him in many ways. "I am a completely different human being; this show has changed me in so many ways and offered me opportunities I could never have dreamed about.”

Maxine Wild

Maxine Wild has been doing drag for 13 years and is one of the three trans women in the cast. She believes shows like this are important in highlighting the experiences of trans women and why their stories matter.

Beaulah has been, and continues to be, an incredible platform for us to showcase who we are. As a trans woman, its importance lies in allowing people who feel the same way about their gender and their journey to see that there are others out there living their truth unapologetically in society.”
