Mzansi Wethu’s Homecoming expands to five episodes a week
Mzansi Wethu’s (DStv channel 163) fan-favourite telenovela, Homecoming, will now air Monday-Friday in its regular 18:30 timeslot, from Monday, 27 April.
The series, set in the hills of Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, follows Zethu Hlongwane (Mpume “Six” Nyamane), a straight-A medical graduate who finds herself returning home with her surgical dreams in tatters and facing a fight to find her place at ‘home’ all over again.
The expansion from three to five days a week gives viewers a chance to delve even deeper into the complex world of the Hlongwanes and Mnisis, where relationships, reckoning, and reconciliation shake the traditional foundations of the rural KZN town.
"Expanding Homecoming to five days a week while introducing exciting additions like Mama’s Boy and the return of Kwanjomane Season 3 allows us to offer our Mzansi Wethu viewers an even richer mix of heartfelt, entertaining and culturally grounded stories," says Shirley Adonisi, Channel Director for Local Entertainment for the MultiChoice Group, a Canal-plus company.
Produced by the multi-award-winning Tshedza Pictures, Homecoming has quickly become a staple for Mzansi Wethu viewers. The demand for daily episodes is proof that the channel’s continued commitment to supporting South Africa’s creative talent, while also championing local stories and productions, has been enthusiastically embraced by viewers.
“We are proud to be working with a channel that shares our commitment to nurturing and preserving our local talent,” says Phathu Makwarela, Executive Producer and co-founder of Tshedza Pictures. “This expansion of the Homecoming timeline will help us create more opportunities for our creative talent, both in front of and behind the camera. The heartbeat of our industry is storytelling - and we want to ensure that our local talent has space to thrive and grow to tell stories that resonate with our viewers.”
The telenovela also stars Amahle Khumalo (Empini), Sipho Manzini (The Queen, iNkaba); Khombi Phetla (The River); Mpilo Mbatha (Shaka ilembe; The River) and Khayalethu Xaba (Shaka iLembe; Lavish).
As the season unfolds, MaNkwanyane reels from learning that Sifiso (Thembinkosi Mthembu) used their savings for Zethu's lobola and the community openly judges Zethu (Six Nyamane) for taking another woman's husband. With more issues set to plague the polygamous marriage, the question is, will it work or is it a disaster waiting to happen?
Meanwhile, Mandla (Zelwande Mbuli) and Phindile’s (Samkelisiwe Hlophe) ‘simple situationship’ starts to get tangled and he is heartbroken when he confesses his love to her but doesn't get the response he needs. And a robbery leaves Matron Khathazile (Khombi Phetla) shaken and grapples with lingering fear after the robbery, however, Mfundisi steps in to make his move, something that seems to replace Matron’s fear with happiness.
There is more drama that viewers are still to witness in what is set to be a season of reckoning and reconciliation.
Homecoming will air Monday-Friday on Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163) from Monday, 27 April at 18:30.
