The North God

03 March 2016
L.E.S is one of South Africa's biggest hip hop artists who rose to fame thanks to the album 'Mutherland Crunk' released in 2006 with the debunked hip hop group, Jozi.

When the success of Jozi came to an end, Da L.E.S successfully launched his own solo career, churning out hits like Fire and Tippy Toes. Jozi released three albums: Muthaland Crunk, Wildlife and Moving the City. Muthaland Crunk was a success and spawned hits like "What's With the Attitude (Wayithini Umame)" and "Muthaland". The group was known for fusing hip hop with traditional South African sounds. Wildlife spawned the hit single "Wildlife". "Living in Africa" which was included in the Wildlife album, sampled "Kazet" by Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens and although it was a hit, it did not become a single. Moving the City, Jozi’s third album was released in 2012, and is their most recent album which included a reality show called Moving the City.

Since then, it’s been nothing but a smooth journey for the North God. Da L.E.S real name Leslie Mampe’s first single P.A.I.D, which features award-winning rapper & friend, AKA and Nigeria’s Burna Boy received massive airplay when it was released. The 90s inspired track, picks up where its predecessor All Eyes On Me left off.

The rapper who is also the ambassador of Ciroc SA is known for hosting the annual all-white party.
