South African Hip Hop Awards 2015: Not without glitches

10 December 2015
SA Hip Hop Awards
The fourth Annual Hip Hop awards took place at Golf Reef City’s Lyric Theatre last night. From their very inception, the awards have been marred by negative publicity around the production, the flow, the categories and overall quality of the show.

The Anatii, AKA and Cassper Show
Despite this, the Hip Hop community flocked to the "Africa By Nature” themed event, where Anatii debuted "The Saga" remix featuring Cassper Nyovest. He jumped right in where AKA would have been in the original song. Ironic considering that the original version scooped the Best Collabo and Video for the night.

AKA was noticeably absent to receive those awards as well as the other three where he won for the Most Valuable, Best Digital Sales and the Milestone Award. The latter was awkward because he and Cassper were the only two nominees in that category and they both won. So if he had been there, they would have collected their awards one right after another?

Boss Zonke solidifies his status
It was also a big night for Riky Rick who took home probably two of the most coveted awards of the night: Album of the year and Best Male. We've gotta say Makhado has the super star rapper and look vibe on lock, no doubt! His jewellery was gleaming, chested tattoo exposed through an open leather jacket, black skinny jeans and of course top end black and red kicks to complete the look!

First ever award for Tumi
Tumi Molekane will always remember the fourth edition of this event as the place where he won his first ever award. In his acceptance speech for Lyricist of the year, he had to reiterate that the award was his first ever accolade since he chose Hip Hop as a career more than a  decade ago.

An old' G gets his due cred
Onto another legend of the game, DJ Ready D was awarded the Honorary Award of the evening. His contribution to the game is well known; absolutely no need to detail the specifics here. He acknowledged "the boss lady" in his life, his wife, whom he credits for running his business and private affairs.

A youngin' bags a big one
