Why we love brogues – Reyka

Academic chic, anyone? 🤓

Brogues are a staple in cupboards across the world. While most people are not as uniquely enamoured by it as the shoe fetish killer in this season of Reyka, it is still a beloved shoe. 👞

According to UK shoe manufacturers, Joseph Cheaney and Sons, this type of shoe can be traced back to Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and Irish 🇮🇪 origins when it was used in the country or outdoors, but has since evolved.

“Broguing is the term used to describe the pattern of holes that marks the outer leather of shoes,” reads the website, “[The perforations allowed] water to escape the leather.” Water, no doubt, from walking about in rainy weather. 🌧  Today, the design is decorative.

Here are a few reasons why we think brogues have transcended generations.

Timeless

The design doesn’t go out of style. It adds a certain elegance (or academic chic) to any outfit. More so, it can be worn from the office to a night out or to a formal event.

Durable

Traditionally made from leather, it is tremendously long-lasting.

Comfortable

The low heel and laces give the shoe a snugness and sturdiness that can be hard to find nowadays in other shoes.
