Salander is the girl with the dragon tattoo. Yup, now you’re nodding your head in recognition, right? If you’re still a little unclear as to who exactly this intriguing antihero is, we’ve got a timeline for more context, before you watch her in your M-Net Sunday night movie, The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

2004 – Salander creator Stieg Larsson passes away. His three novels featuring his eponymous character were all released posthumously.
2005 – Lisbeth Salander is introduced in Larsson’s novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – the first book in what would become his Millennium series.
2006 – The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second novel in the series, is released.
2007 – The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, the third novel in the series, is released.
2009 – A Swedish film trilogy based on the three books, and taking the same titles, is released. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace plays the role of Salander in all three films.
2010 – A Swedish TV series, titled Millennium, is released, with Rapace reprising her role as Salander.
2011 – Rapace is nominated for a Best Leading Actress BAFTA for her performance as Salander in the first film.
2011 – A Hollywood film remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is released, starring Rooney Mara as Salander.
2012 – Mara receives Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for her performance as Salander.
2015 – A new novel featuring Salander but written by Swedish writer David Lagercrantz, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, is released.
2017 – The next novel in the Millennium series, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, is released. It was also written by Lagercrantz.
2018 – A movie adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web is released, starring Claire Foy as Salander.
2019 – The sixth Millennium novel, The Girl Who Lived Twice, also written by Lagercrantz, is released.
