M-Net channel 101 is bringing Survivor South Africa back to Mzansi. Based on the popular American format, South Africa has done 5 previous seasons of this series while the new season of Survivor South Africa is ALL ABOUT THE GAME AND HOW YOU PLAY IT.
M-Net is looking for a diverse range of South Africans who are passionate about the show, and have intimate knowledge of how the game works. You can enter online via www.mnet.tv/survivorsa or at Survivor South Africa activations in Durban on 11 November, in Cape Town on 18 November and in Johannesburg on 25 November.
Survivor South Africa will be broadcast on M-Net channel 101 in May 2018.
If you enter the show, you must be available to travel abroad from the first week of January 2018 – end of February 2018. You must have a valid passport and must be over the age of 18 as of 30 November 2017.

What is Survivor?
Survivor South Africa is a reality television series which places a group of strangers on an isolated island location where they must provide food, fire and shelter for themselves. The contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination. The aim of the game is to literally “Outwit, Outplay, Outlast” fellow competitors. Contestants are progressively voted off the island by their fellow castaways, until only one remains and is given the title of Sole Survivor and the grand prize of R1 Million.
Who should enter?
Anyone who is an avid fan of the series and who has an intimate understanding of how the game works should enter.
Is there an age restriction for entry?
Yes. Contestants must be 18 years old or older on 30 November 2017.
Do I have to be a South African citizen?
Yes. You must be a South African citizen or have permanent residence status. You will be required to show proof of identity. You must also have a passport that is valid until August 2018.
Can I enter online?
Yes. We strongly encourage everyone to enter online at www.mnet.tv/survivorsa
In the online application, they suggest submitting a video. How important is this?
We strongly encourage all online entrants to submit their video.
What should the video cover?
The video should feature you authentically. Play to your strengths, have some fun and bowl us over with your on-screen presence, and most importantly, your game plan. You need to tell us everything we need to know about why you would be perfect for Survivor South Africa. Be yourself. Be as creative as you like! A few questions you may want to answer in your submission could include:
- Your name, age, where you live and what you do.
- What do you love about Survivor?
- Why are you applying for Survivor South Africa?
- Why should you be part of the show?
- Who is your favourite Survivor contestant of all time?
How long should it be?
No longer than 3 minutes please.
But I am not a professional cameraperson and I don’t have a camera!
Don’t panic! We are not judging your camera skills – we just want to see you in action. You can use your phone – the video quality is not important.
Why do I need to submit a photo of myself in swimwear as part of my application?
We need to make sure that no matter who you are or what you look like, that you’re going to be comfortable to be seen on TV in your swimwear. After all, you could be on the island for a very long time! We welcome all body shapes and sizes.
Are there open auditions?
There are no open auditions, but if you would like to enter and can’t do your own online entry, there will be Survivor South Africa activation booths in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in the following places:
Durban: Saturday, 11 November – New Beach, Durban North, opposite Garden Court Hotel (09:00 – 17:00)
Cape Town: Saturday, 18 November – Canal Walk (10:00 – 18:00)
Johannesburg: Saturday, 25 November – Mall of Africa (10:00 – 18:00)
Members of the Survivor South Africa team will be there from 09:00am on these dates to take you through the entry process and help you to submit your online entry video at these venues.
When does filming take place?
Filming takes place from the beginning of January 2018 – end of February 2018.
How much time off work will I need to take?
If you are successful and are shortlisted for the show, you will need to be available for 2-3 days in November/December to meet the producers and selection team, as well as for physical and medical assessments. Following that, the production team will send you more information. If you are selected, the production team can also issue a confidential letter to your employer to explain that you will be taking part in the show.
If you are selected to take part in Survivor SA, you will be away from work from 08 January 2018 up to 28 February 2018, should you make it all the way to the final Tribal Council.
When do online entries close?
Online entries close on 26 November 2017. No late entries will be considered. The sooner you submit your application the better.
Where is the show taking place?
The location of this season of Survivor South Africa will remain a secret until filming starts in 2018.
What is the prize for winning the show?
Apart from the title of Sole Survivor, there will be a R1 Million cash prize for the winner. More information around the prize will be announced at a later stage.
When will Survivor South Africa be broadcast?
The show will be broadcast from May 2018 on M-Net channel 101.
