13 March - The Wedding Ringer

This week’s Sunday night movie is a laugh a minute. The Wedding Ringer (2015) sees comedians Kevin Hart and Josh Gad come together in this story about a groom who desperately needs a best man.

It’s only two weeks until Doug Harris (Gad) marries his beloved Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting from The Big Bang Theory). Unfortunately, he is socially awkward and shy, and doesn’t have any groomsmen to accompany him in front of the altar.

A desperate Doug turns to Jimmy Callahan (Hart), owner of Best Man Inc. – a service that provides groomsmen for those who need them.

Hart is bringing his What Now? stand-up tour to South Africa in March next year. If you’re not familiar with his performances, The Wedding Ringer is the perfect opportunity to change that: At this year’s Golden Globes, Hart said that the film is most representative of his on-stage comedy. He also called it his best work to date.

Seven facts about Kevin Hart:

1. He is short – only 1.63 m. His first comedy tour was titled “I’m a Grown Little Man”.

2. He has two children, Heaven and Hendrix, with ex-wife Torrei Hart.

3. He initially struggled to find success with his comedy, and once had a piece of chicken thrown at him while on stage.

4. Since his first film, 2002’s Paper Soldiers, he has had roles in over 30 films.

5. He won the Comedic Genius Award at this year’s MTV Movie Awards.

6. He hosted the 2011 BET Awards and the 2012 MTV VMAs.

7. Rihanna has teamed up with Hart and Lionel Ritchie for her second annual Diamond Ball charity event. Hart will be the host.
