Two new Binges are coming to M-Net Edge this weekend, with HAPPYish Season 1 at 21:00 and True Detective Season 2 at 22:00 on Saturday 19 December.

True Detective, an anthology crime drama, is one of the most popular series in recent years. We went looking for quirky titbits about Season 2’s stars.

1. Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro) is one of Ireland’s best-known actors, but things nearly turned out differently: a young Colin auditioned for Irish boyband Boyzone, but was turned down.

2. Mean Girls might have been her breakout role, but Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides) truly became famous with 2004’s heartbreaking romance The Notebook. However, the movie wasn’t her first connection to co-star Ryan Gosling – the two were born in the same hospital in Ontario, Canada. (After The Notebook, the two dated for three years and were engaged twice.)

3. Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodraugh), who like McAdams is Canadian, started playing ice hockey at the age of 3 or 4, eventually playing league hockey for the Langley Hornets, before a knee injury ended his career. He’s still very athletic, and performed all his own stunts in The Covenant (2006).

4. Kelly Reilly (Jordan Semyon) is a British theatre actress, but the opposite of many celebrities: she loves to act, but has said she would prefer just to do the acting without any of the fame.

5. Vince Vaughn (Frank Semyon) is the only American-born actor in the top-billed cast, although his mother is Canadian. In a way slightly reminiscent of the Kardashians, the Vaughn family went for alliteration: father Vernon, sisters Victoria and Valeri, and Vince. He is somewhat accident-prone and has lost part of his thumb.
