What is MasterChef?
Top chefs judge passionate home cooks who participate in competitive culinary challenges to develop their cooking skills and win the title of MasterChef.

Who are the judges?
The celebrity judges of MasterChef SA have not yet been confirmed.

What is the prize for winning the show?
The winning contestant will get a cash prize of R1m.

What will the structure of the series be?
The series structure will be a total of 20 episodes, 4x a week.

 

 

How do I enter MasterChef?
You need to complete the online application form at mnet.tv/masterchefsa. Follow the prompts, complete the fields, and upload the following: 

• A clear photo of yourself; 
• An optional cell phone video of you in the kitchen, showcasing your skill, up to 2 minutes in length (optional)

No other method of entry is permitted.

Who should enter?
M-Net is looking for anyone who is passionate about food and cooking with excellent culinary skills. Entrants must be real, ordinary people with a love for cooking and a foodie dream.

May I enter with a partner?
MasterChef SA does not require you to enter with a partner.

Is there an age restriction for entry?
Yes. Entrants must be 18 years old or older by 1 August 2021.

Do I have to be a South African citizen?
Yes. You must be a South African citizen or have permanent residence status. You will be required to show proof of citizenship or residency in the application process. No exceptions will be made.

How much cooking experience do I need to have?
You should be someone who cooks a lot and all the time. You should be passionate about food and cooking. You should know your way around a kitchen, possess a high level of culinary skill, know recipes and how to work with food, and have a few culinary tricks up your sleeve.

Is entry open to qualified chefs or professional cooks?

• You cannot currently work as a professional chef and you cannot have ever worked as a professional chef. 
• If your current main source of income comes from preparing and/or cooking fresh food in a professional environment (restaurant, hotels, canteens, catering etc.), then the producers of “MasterChef” reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to determine if your cooking duties, training, and/or experience rise to a level of professionalism that would render you ineligible. 

Where do I go to audition?
You need to complete the online application form at mnet.tv/masterchefsa. Follow the prompts, complete the fields ,and upload the following:

• A clear photo of yourself; 
• Your personal details, a motivation to enter;
• An optional cell phone video of you in the kitchen, showcasing your skill, up to 2 minutes in length.

How does the audition process work?
It is an honour to be admitted into the MasterChef kitchen, and therefore there are many stages in the audition process:

• Phase one – online entry on mnet.tv/masterchefsa, that includes a form that requires your personal details, a clear photo of yourself, and an optional cell phone video of you in the kitchen showcasing skill, up to 2 minutes in length
• Phase two – A mystery box challenge at the “Masterchef SA audition kitchen”.
• Phase three – From the Mystery Box challenges the judges will choose 20 finalists to join MasterChef SA.

Can employees or associates of the show enter the show?
Employees of Homebrew, Electronic Media Network Propriety Limited, or the MultiChoice Group of Companies or any of the M.I.H. Group of companies may not enter the show.

May I enter the show if I have been on other reality shows?
Yes, given that you disclose all the reality shows you have participated in.

Will a background check be done on all entrants?
If you are short-listed, you also agree to authorise the producers to conduct background checks in order to verify any of the information supplied. Please note that consenting to these checks is no guarantee of being chosen to participate.

When will I be notified if I am successful or not?
You will only be contacted by the production company for further details should your entry be shortlisted. Should your entry be successful and shortlisted, the production company will contact you within 60 days of receipt of your application.

May I enter the show more than once to improve my chances?
Multiple entries are not permitted. Entries are only valid if correctly submitted on the entry platform. 

Do I have to agree to all the terms and conditions to enter?
Your valid submission of your entry constitutes your binding acceptance of the terms and conditions contained herein.
