This weekend you are about to take an exotic trip to a tropical paradise in your Sunday night movie, Ticket to Paradise, starring Hollywood legends Julia Roberts and George Clooney. It’s certainly going to be an adventure worth waiting for, so let’s look at some behind-the-scenes facts about the movie.
The plot centres on a divorced couple (played by Clooney and Roberts) who venture to Bali in hopes of sabotaging their daughter’s upcoming wedding. Although the movie is set in Bali, it was actually filmed in Australia due to the Covid pandemic restrictions. The crew didn’t let a pandemic stop them from capturing the beauty of a tropical paradise and found the perfect locations to shoot in. The main locations were the Whitsundays, the Gold Coast, and beaches close to Brisbane in Queensland.
Despite not being filmed in Bali, the movie stays true to Balinese culture. This is achieved through the sets, the colourful traditional outfits, the food, the music, and casting Balinese actors.
The cast said that they enjoyed their time filming and when they were not shooting they got to enjoy leisure time in the tropical resorts and islands. Rumour has it that Julia Roberts enjoyed helicopter rides to the islands.
Director Ol Parker also wanted the story of Clooney and Roberts’s characters to evoke the feeling of watching a sequel to an old movie. This was achieved by relying on the incredible chemistry between Clooney and Roberts, who have often teamed up in the past. The story also perfectly sums up the characters’ past, giving viewers a great picture of their backstory.
