Battle of The Ankara

Thrilling fashion is back with HONEY TV’s first jam packed fashion competition, Battle of the Ankara. The show is a design competition where 10 up-and-coming fashion designers from different countries compete for the Ankara fashion crown. All designs are inspired, rooted and based on the Ankara material. Designers from Ghana, Botswana, Zimbabwe and more descend on Fedisa Fashion School based in Cape Town.

The show is hosted by Radio DJ, Luthando “LootLove” Shosha. “This is my first time hosting a show of this calibre and it’s exciting experiencing a competition from the other end,” she says. “It really opened up my eyes to how much talent we have and how you’re really contributing to someone’s future.”

Bringing the best fashion minds together, the show boasts esteemed designers, Gert-Johan Coetzee and Palesa Mokubung as the judges. “The thing that surprises me most is seeing a fresh take on how Ankara is used in new and fresh ways,” says Coetzee. “We are used to seeing the fabric used very traditionally, but the contestants bring their A-game and make designs that are much more unexpected.” Mokubung remarks that she’s “been a guest judge on other fashion design shows and being a permanent judge has always been a dream of mine.” The show is an addition to the channel's hot take on style and fashion across Africa, having aired shows such as Shine Shine and Guess The Dress, produced by Burnt Onion.
