DStv Premium Highlights for April 2026

The People vs VBS Bank, Michael Fassbender’s spy series The Agency, Taylor Sheridan’s Marshals & more.

April brings South Africa a brief but eagerly anticipated break – especially for rugby fans who’ll either be glued to the Easter Rugby Schools Festivals on SuperSport, or cheering on our teams in the EPCR Challenge Cup and the Investec Champions Cup.

There’s also a feast of fun for everyone throughout the month as Taylor Sheridan’s new Marshals series gallops into town, along with Michael Fassbender's nailbiting thriller The Agency – which you can compare to National Geographic’s spy documentary Inside the CIA: Secrets And Spies – and more financial intrigue, skulduggery and backstabbing in the documentary series The People vs VBS Bank, from the makers of Steinheist.

The People vs VBS Bank

True crime documentary from the Steinheist team. Imagine waking up to find your life savings gone forever. According to VBS liquidator Walter Stander, that’s what happened to an 86-year-old woman who’d saved for 30 years to send her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to university. Instead, she lost every cent in 2018, as did around 22 000 others from low-income communities who’d trusted VBS bank – while a handful of the bank’s top executives pocketed nearly R2 billion for themselves.

Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints

Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull; Goodfellas; The Aviator) turns his lens to familiar Catholic saints. Each episode of this documentary series features dramatisations focusing on a different saint, including Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Moses the Black, Sebastian, and Maximilian Kolbe. These are combined with interviews with scholars who explain how the saints’ lives fit into the geopolitics of their times, Scorsese’s observations as narrator, and questions from celebrities.

Spies & detectives

AGENCY THE S01 2026 KV LANDSCAPE TEXTLESS

The Agency

Spy thriller based on the French series Le Bureau des Légendes. CIA spy Brandon Colby (Michael Fassbender), code-named Martian, receives abrupt orders to abandon his six-year undercover assignment in Ethiopia and return to London Station. But things get messy when he runs into his old flame, Sudanese anthropology professor Dr Sami Zahir, and he continues their affair under his previous cover name. With Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright as Martian’s boss Henry Ogletree, and Richard Gere as London Station Chief James Bradley.

Inside the CIA: Secrets and Spies

Documentary series. Eight real-life covert agents and intelligence operatives, like former Pakistan Station Chief Mark Kelton and former CIA Deputy Director Jennifer Ewbank, reveal what happened behind the scenes of world headlines, including the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Find out what it’s like to live and work in a field in which discovery and exposure of your true mission means certain death, and where you make interesting new friends, knowing you’re setting them up for betrayal.

Marshals

Taylor Sheridan’s latest Yellowstone spinoff series is a police procedural. Ex-Navy SEAL Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) joins the US Marshals. His military training, cowboy grit, ability to improvise, and in-depth knowledge of the land and people help him tackle crime across the state of Montana, while balancing duty, family and his battle against the psychological impact of violence. Familiar faces for Yellowstone fans include Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), Mo (Mo Brings Plenty), and Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Patience

Police drama adapted from the French-Belgian series Astrid et Raphaëlle. Yorkshire Police Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) takes a talented, autistic, police records department archivist named Patience (Ella Maisy Purvis) under her wing when she notices her flair for criminology and pattern recognition – a skill that their chief of police somehow seems to lack. But Patience has to be on guard against the demanding new environment, which has already destroyed Bea’s marriage, driving her to burnout.

Lynley

Police drama based on Elizabeth George’s bestselling crime novels. Police detective Tommy Lynley (Leo Suter) is treated as an outsider in the force because he comes from a posh background, went to Oxford, and his daddy is an earl. When he’s partnered with tough, insubordinate street cop Barbara Havers (Sofia Barclay), they seem to have nothing in common but a Batman-like thirst for justice. Tommy’s background proves useful time and again, though, when even his own family members come under suspicion.

GILDED AGE THE S03 2025 KV LANDSCAPE TEXTLESS

The Gilded Age

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes takes us back to New York City in March 1883, as ambitious upstarts Bertha (Carrie Coon) and George Russell (Morgan Spencer) and their old‑money neighbours, Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Forte (Cynthia Nixon), face shifting fortunes. This season’s real-life incidents include the lionising of society portrait artist John Singer Sargent, and the uproar around Ward McAllister's (Nathan Lane) tattletale book about New York's elite: Society As I Have Found It.

Secrets of the Bees

National Geographic kicks off Earth Month in April with this two-part special (which will air back-to-back) from executive producer James Cameron. BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory explores the hidden lives of bees using special high-speed cameras set inside a single beehive for three years. Going well beyond the familiar honeybee, the series also highlights the role of more than 20,000 different bee species that pollinate one-third of the world’s food.

Holiday sport

ATP World Tour Masters 1000: Monte-Carlo

Founded in 1896, this is one of the nine ATP Masters tournaments. The final on Sunday, 12 April will be followed by the Madrid Open, which starts on Wednesday, 22 April, and will also air on SuperSport Tennis. Big names to look out for include defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner (who won the series’ opening tournament at Indian Wells), Novak Djokovic, and Stan Wawrinka, who won a wild-card draw along with Matteo Berrettini.

Champions Cup Rugby: Toulon vs Stormers & Glasgow Warriors vs Bulls

This weekend’s ultimate Easter Egg hunts centre on rugby balls that squads of grown men (and South Africa’s top schools’ teams) are set to fight over. After the Sharks face Connacht in the EPCR Challenge Cup Round of 16 on Friday, 3 April, the Stormers and Bulls play their away games in the Investec Champions Cup, before more international rivalries spark at the United Rugby Championship games, which kick off with Stormers and Lions home games from Saturday, 18 April.
