Did you hear that whistle? The long, grey drought is over and the men in green and gold are ready to burst onto our screens with pride as the British & Irish Lions Tour kicks off this July on SuperSport Rugby (DStv channel 211).
Our Springbok World Champions have dusted off their boots and they’re back in action from Saturday, 3 July to Saturday, 7 August to play their first tournament since being crowned World Champions at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
It’s been 12 years since the Boks last triumphed over the Lions at their most recent showdown in 2009, in an epic rivalry that has been playing out since 1891. Now, it all comes down to this.
““This year is going to be something else, it always was,” ”Springbok captain Siya Kolisi
We won’t be able to cheer on the teams in our stadiums this year, even with the Boks playing on home turf. But we can still catch every moment onscreen, cheer on the guys on social media, hold online viewing parties with our friends, and yell and celebrate in the street as much as we like.
So get DStv Premium today to get involved in the Year of Rugby and show the guys some love.
Back the Boks!
In the moving documentary series Chasing The Sun (available to binge as a Box Set on the DStv app until Saturday, 31 July) we learnt about the intense mental game that has to be won before our team steps out onto the field. Each player has a South African home town’s pride and spirit – and a country’s – at their shoulders raising them up.
They had it while they were far, far away in Japan. And this year, they’ll have it on home ground, too. Even if their home ground is now your living room. The Boks know that a whole country is watching. Their pride is our pride, and there’s no Lion pride that can beat that.
“We’ve got some big games coming up this year, and although you can’t be in the stands, you can still be at the game,” says Siya. In fact, you can be that superfan who goes to every single game that the Boks play on this tour, and you won’t even have to buy a plane ticket - DStv Premium is your season ticket to the event.
Upgrade now to a DStv Explora Ultra with its built-in Wi-Fi connection to combine the power of DStv, the DStv App and Catch Up for the whole story when you follow Springbok Rugby this season.
