Mark your calendars, Tali’s Wedding Diary arrives on Showmax on Thursday 14 December to stream. Get the snacks ready for a serious binge session once the 8-part mockumentary becomes available because you won’t want to do anything else – trust us!
Meet Tali, she’s obsessed with social media (follow her on Instagram) and has an ideal wedding planned in her head. When this self-obsessed Sandton princess moves to Cape Town with her property-agent fiancé Darren, she decides to document the entire build-up to the event. Of course it’s not without a few hiccups and mishaps along the way, but even that will have you hooked on every minute of the drama.
Many will recognise Julia as the hilarious SuizelleDIY who has racked up over 23 million views on YouTube from teaching us how to do practically everything. Julia is joined by a great cast for Tali’s Wedding Diary. Anton Taylor takes on the role of Darren – he’s been in the award-winning short Money, Keys, Phone and the popular web series Jozi Shore. Expect to see other well-known faces including Lara Lipschitz (Chin-Up); Glen Biderman-Pam (three-time Savannah Comics Choice nominee); Kate Normington (Those Who Can’t) and Guy De Lancey (The Pervert Laura).
Look out for cameos from the likes of Top Billing host Lorna Maseko; Nic Smal from Derick Watts and the Sunday Blues; Nicci Saint Bruce (Push Push); members of Al Bairre; and, of course, Gina Collins (Marianne in SuzelleDIY).
The Showmax original series was inspired by Julia’s own wedding to SuzelleDIY director Ari Kruger. “There’s so much comedic material in getting married,” says Julia. “You meet the funniest people and there’s so much stuff you can’t actually believe, but somehow we’d never seen a wedding parody in a South African context before.”
