There’s a saying that goes, ‘to understand the future, you should reflect on the past.’ In Biggie’s house, this idea has taken centre stage for week 3 with the theme of Nollywood Nostalgia. Housemates are getting the chance to revisit their favourite memories and, in doing so, recognise how these nostalgic experiences continue to influence their behaviours today.
As children growing up in African homes, some things formed our shared collective experience. One of which is the eldest child needing to rise to the role of ‘deputy parent’ to their younger siblings. So, picturing the housemates as Biggie’s children (at least just for this week), that makes Zita the eldest sister as the HoH.
Well, Zita’s older-sister reign has seen a fair amount of sibling rebellion. Earlier today, she assigned chores to housemates through a slew of commands whispered to her by Gigi Jasmine and Sultana just moments prior. Little did she know that this reshuffle was not about to get the vote of confidence from the other housemates.
The seeds of discontent had been sown much earlier. Gigi Jasmine and Sultana had taken it upon themselves to ‘help’ Zita draft the chore list, their voices low and conspiratorial. And as they outlined the assignments, Sultana slyly remarked, "No wonder Kayikunmi was calling her needy." Zita, engrossed in her new responsibilities, seemed to miss the shade entirely.
Later, as Zita began assigning the chores, a chorus of ‘ooohs and ahhh’s rippled through the room. Faith openly complained, frustrated that he’d been placed on kitchen duty without his input. He was unhappy with what he saw as an oversight from Zita. If only he knew the true masterminds behind the list.
Faith's complaint did, however, open the floodgates. Isabella chimed in, arguing that dishes shouldn't even be an issue. “Everyone can wash a dish and a spoon,” she stated, adding that it's only a problem when plates are left to pile up. Her solution was simple: wash as you go.
Then came Big Soso, who was upset about being assigned to tasks she felt others were avoiding. While she didn't mind cooking or washing dishes, she found it interesting that Doris was always assisting but never had a primary chore. Big Soso felt like she was doing a lot while others were not pulling their weight. The tension escalated as she complained about a recent disagreement with Kaybobo in the kitchen. “Imagine! He said I was threatened by him. I'm not even threatened by women,” she said, her voice dripping with indignation.
Zita, growing defensive, stated that people were starting to be "in their feelings" now that she has more responsibilities as HoH. Tracy added that there was a level of entitlement at play, and Zita agreed, mentioning that Big Soso had been “a bit weird lately.”
Amid the chaos, Mide was seen policing the kitchen, making sure everyone washed their plates. Bright Morgan jokingly crowned her the "Kitchen Police." It was a moment of light-heartedness that offered a brief reprieve, but the underlying tensions remained. The childhood nostalgia theme was proving to be a double-edged sword, as the housemates’ collective past experiences with sibling squabbles and household politics played out in real time.
All housemates are up for possible eviction this week, with the exception of Head of House Zita, Most Influential Player Jason Jae, and Faith and Mensan, who have immunity after being saved by the HoH.
