SuperSport has launched the SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month, a new fan-voted award designed to celebrate the performances and contributions of African footballers in the Premier League.
The initiative, launched on 15 September 2026, gives Premier League fans across Africa the opportunity to decide which African star deserves recognition each month. SuperSport is part of MultiChoice Group, a CANAL+ company.
Bryan Mbeumo Wins Inaugural Award
The first-ever SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month award has gone to Manchester United and Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo for August 2026.
Mbeumo made an impressive start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, scoring a memorable lob during Manchester United's 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the club's first home match of the campaign.
The goal also won Manchester United's August Goal of the Month fan vote, beating teammate Bruno Fernandes' hat-trick.
Mbeumo's attacking style, work rate and ability to create opportunities helped him stand out among the first group of nominees.
He won the inaugural African Player of the Month vote after competing against Antoine Semenyo, Mamadou Sangaré, Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy.
African Fans Get to Choose
The new award puts African football supporters at the centre of the Premier League experience.
Each month, standout African players will be shortlisted based on their performances during the previous month. Fans will then have 72 hours to vote for their preferred player.
The monthly winner will receive the SuperSport African Premier League Player of the Month award, along with a trophy presentation and exclusive content featuring the winning player.
The initiative is available to fans across MultiChoice's African markets, including its Francophone clusters.
From Okocha and Drogba to Today's African Stars
African footballers have played an important role in Premier League history for decades.
Legends including Jay-Jay Okocha, Lucas Radebe, Didier Drogba, Yaya Touré, Kolo Touré, Nwankwo Kanu, Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah have all made a lasting impact on English football.
The current generation continues that tradition, with players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Carlos Baleba, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Nicolas Jackson, Omar Marmoush, Amad Diallo, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Noussair Mazraoui and Yoane Wissa representing African talent in the Premier League.
With the 2026/27 season now underway, the monthly award will give fans another opportunity to recognise the players making an impact on the pitch.

Taking part in the vote is designed to be straightforward.

- Select their preferred player.
- Submit their vote.

The African Player of the Month vote forms part of the wider SuperSport Predictor Premier League experience.
