Day 39: A mid-season spill on platonic bonds and snubbed crushes – BBNaija

News03 September 2025
The Big Brother Naija house isn’t just about sparks and showdowns; it’s also a place where friendships can grow unexpectedly, and romantic interests sometimes fizzle out.
Housemates

This season has seen surprising platonic bonds form alongside subtle crushes that quietly lost momentum, proving that not all connections in the house revolve around romance.

Friendships in the house have been full of surprises. Tracy and Zita, for instance, have grown close despite barely interacting at the start of the show. Over time, they have started sharing almost everything, from daily conversations to personal thoughts, forming a friendship that few anticipated.

Sibling-like bonds are proving just as strong. Kola and Imisi have developed a close connection reminiscent of brother and sister. Kola often calls himself her big brother, and Imisi respects and listens to his advice. The two cook, eat, and spend time together. Even though some housemates have questioned Kola’s intentions, suggesting he might be motivated by his belief that Imisi is popular outside, he maintains that his friendship with Imisi is genuine.

Unexpected friendships are forming even among contrasting personalities. Big Soso, Isabella, and Sultana have created a trio of friends that no one saw coming. Big Soso often scrutinises and questions the behaviours of other housemates, sometimes giving off a “mother hen” vibe, which can leave her out of playful games like Truth or Dare.

Isabella is the free spirit, always looking to have fun and unafraid to share kisses, while Sultana is the relaxed, go-with-the-flow friend. Together, their contrasting personalities create a dynamic friendship that works surprisingly well.

Some friendships are serving serious “sismance” goals. Dede and Joanna have grown close in recent weeks, showing camaraderie and support. Meanwhile, Mide and Dede’s friendship remains strained after a revealing conversation from Ebuka during the live show, where Mide claimed Dede had initiated their friendship, a comment that did not sit well with Dede.

Romantic feelings in the house have been subtle and, at times, fleeting, and not all romantic gestures indicate a future relationship. Jason Jae has shared kisses and cuddles with Sultana, yet when asked about pursuing a relationship outside the house, he admitted he does not see things going further.

Joanna and Faith remain entirely platonic, though Faith once recited an ode to Joanna, gushing over their friendship in a way that captured attention.

Meanwhile, some connections remain firmly in the friend zone. Koyin and Dede’s connection has stayed platonic. Initial hints of romantic interest from Koyin’s side fizzled quickly, and they continue to maintain a genuine friendship. Similarly, Rooboy’s interest in Thelma Lawson, present from day one, seems unlikely to progress after recent disagreements, leaving any romantic pursuit off the table.

On the other hand, Tracy hinted at an interest in Koyin but quickly backtracked when questioned during the Sunday live show.

The house proves that connections don’t always have to be romantic to matter. Strong platonic bonds, sibling-like relationships, and unlikely friendships are shaping the house just as much as sparks of romance, or the absence of them.

All housemates are up for possible eviction this week, with the exception of Head of House and Most Influential Player Of The Week Faith, Mensan who has Red Envelope Immunity, and Zita who was saved by the HoH via tree of trinkets.
