Day 13: When food becomes the fittest opponent – BBNaija

In Biggie’s house, fitness isn’t just about flexing muscles, it’s also about surviving the kitchen battlefield.

Wellness and fitness experts will tell you that what we eat is just as important, if not more than the exercises we do. Food fuels our bodies, repairs our muscles, and keeps our energy levels in check. In Biggie’s house, however, food is not just fuel, it’s drama, strategy, and sometimes, outright warfare.

We already saw our fair share of chaos in the very first week of the housemates’ stay.

The inaugural HoH, Jason Jae, together with Big Soso and Otega as kitchen managers, tried to keep the kitchen in order, but within hours, frustrations boiled over. Gluttony became a hot topic when Sultana confided in Big Soso and Ibifubara that wanting to eat everything is a sin. This snowballed into a full house meeting where Big Soso aired the growing food issues, calling for communal cooking, a suggestion that didn’t exactly get unanimous approval.

Things stayed relatively calm until Otega’s infamous Meatgate scandal on Thursday night after the first pool party of the season. While the rest of the house partied at the pool, Otega stayed back grilling meat, and when the music stopped, he shared a fraction of the meat, then dug in his heels, claiming his solo effort meant solo enjoyment. His meat-loving tendencies resurfaced when he warned everyone to keep their hands off the goat meat because it was “his.”

When Thelma Lawson took over as HoH in week two, she wasted no time trying to enforce order with a food schedule. Her reign, however, was spiced up, literally, by a cake fight between Ivatar and Joanna over Denari’s birthday cake. Joanna, tasked with cutting the cake into 29 slices, did not take kindly to Ivatar helping herself to extra. Was it sugar cravings… or just a sugar high?

In a bid to keep peace, Thelma Lawson suggested communal cooking and sharing, but Imisi and Isabella flat-out refused. They wanted the freedom to splurge like others had in the previous week. Unmoved, Thelma Lawson told dissenters to leave the meeting, and they did. The HoH baton then passed to Victory, whose reign coincided with a lost wager. And nothing tests emotions quite like hunger. This week, alliances became clearer, with people cooking for their favourites. Still, food scarcity made even these small circles tricky to manage.

Case in point: Mide and Zita’s sharp exchange over food prep. Mide asked Zita to chop veggies for a meal she was making for herself and her partner Danboskid, but Zita, declaring she wasn’t cooking today, said “No” in a way Mide didn’t appreciate. Hangry much?

Then there was the bread incident this morning. Victory announced that no one would get their share, three slices each, until they washed their dishes. Was this a smart method of enforcing house chores, or was bread now being wielded as a tool of control?

With this week’s food supply once again on the line, depending on whether they win their wager, the question is: will the housemates keep their wellness in check if they’re left with just the essentials? Or will hunger keep stirring the pot, ensuring food remains the fiercest opponent in Biggie’s fitness challenge?
