It’s no secret My Kitchen Rules judge J’Something is famous for his music too – his band Mi Casa have just released their fourth album.
The soulful house of ‘Familia’, Mi Casa’s fourth LP, is inspired by camaraderie - and the bond this lively threesome has developed with audiences across the continent since 2011’s self-titled debut.
“Six years ago we were complete strangers, today we are brothers – familia,” they’ve said. “Six years ago nobody knew who we were, today we have thousands of fans all around the globe, our familia. This album is all about our journey as brothers, as a band, as a group, as a team, as a movement, as a familia.”
In combining local elements of jazz, Afro-house and gospel - with more exotic references to the music of Brazil and the Cape Verde - this SAMA-winning group deliver an eclectic crossover of epic proportions.
Opening track and first “Nana” effortlessly showcases the band’s trademark sound - Dr Duda’s production, J'Something’s cool vocals and Mo-T’s infectious trumpet playing - to full effect.
From there the record sails through the easy, jazzy, tropical dance climes the act is renowned for – perfect for chilling on the beach, dancing in the moonlight, or even cooking! Listen on Apple Music.
The band are launching the album in the UK this weekend, before playing across Mzansi and Lusaka – get all the dates on their Facebook page.
In this clip, J’Something discussed being overseas when My Kitchen Rules premieres on Sunday (13 August) at 18:00.
