Ons hoor hom rap oor potte, maar dié keer is die welbekende kletsrymer Early B regtig voor die potte en besig met verskeie disse, familie en natuurlik humor. Hy het ’n rits treffers en toekennings agter sy naam, maar nou is hy reg om ook sy lyf aanbieder te hou vir die vermaaklikheidsprogram My ma kook beter as joune reg wat vroeg in 2023 op die kassie sal wees.

In My ma kook beter as joune ding twee spanne teen mekaar mee. Die spanne bestaan elk uit ’n ma wat haar plek in ’n kombuis kan volstaan en een van haar kinders wat glad nie kan kook nie. Die wenspan neem ’n stewige R10 000 huis toe en die reg om te kan spog: My ma kán beter as jou ma kook.

“Die kykers is in vir ’n ding,” sê Early B. “Onse doel was om ma’s en kinders weer in die kombuis bymekaar te bring. Dinge raak warm snaaks! Die feit dat ek die ma’s en die kinders nou en dan aan die gesels hou terwyl die kokery aan die gang is, het ek baie geniet.”

In die eerste program van die reeks, wat op 7 Januarie 2023 op kykNET&kie (DStv-kanaal 145) uitgesaai word, kook Tarryn-Lee en Nicole terwyl hulle ma’s benoud toekyk. In van die ander programme is daar, onder andere, ma’s wat saam met hulle seuns kook, ma’s wat beste vriendinne is, maar wanneer hulle dogters kook, saai dit onmin en selfs ’n restauranteienaar en ’n kosspesialis wat moet toekyk hoe hulle dogters in die kombuis vaar.

Early sê ’n mens kan jou net indink hoeveel komedie daar is. “Ma’s is gewoond om op hulle eie tyd ’n dis klaar te maak, maar nou gooi jy haar kind in wat niks van kosmaak weet nie. Boonop is daar R10 000 op die spel en ’n klok wat vinnig loop. Daai maak dat die ma se geduld gou opraak en dit bring al die drama en komedie. Ek kan nie wag om dit op TV te kyk nie!”  

Early B se mede-aanbieder is die koskenner Errieda du Toit, wat ook betrokke is by gewilde kookprogramme soos In die sop, Koekedoor en Kokkedoor.

It’s almost time for Early B’s fun new cooking show, My ma kook beter as joune

We heard him rap about “potte” (pots), but this time the famous MC Early B is using actual pots and pans for preparing food with family and, naturally, lots of humour. He has a slew of hits and awards under his belt, but now he shows his chops as presenter of the cooking show My ma kook beter as joune [My Mother Cooks Better Than Yours], set to start early in 2023.

In My ma kook beter as joune two teams compete, each consisting of a mother who really knows her way around the kitchen and of one her children who can’t cook for toffee. The winning team takes R10 000 home with the bragging rights to officially declare: My mother cooks better than yours.

“The viewers are in for a treat,” says Early B. “Our aim was to get mothers and their children together in the kitchen. That’s where heads get hot, and things get funny. I really enjoyed keeping the moms and their children chatting while all the cooking is taking place at the same time.”

In the first programme of the series, which airs 7 January 2023 on kykNET&kie (DStv Channel 145), Tarryn-Lee and Nicole sweat behind the stove while their worried moms look on nervously. In some of the other shows, moms cook with their sons, and moms who are the best of friends start arguing when their daughters start cooking. Even a restaurant owner and food expert need to stay calm while their daughters struggle in the kitchen.
Early says you can just imagine how much comedy these situations create. “Many mothers are used to prepare dishes and meals on their own. If you throw a spanner in that works by involving a child who knows nothing about cooking, sparks fly. There’s also prize money of R10 000 at stake and a race against time. Moms lose their cool and their patience, and drama and hilarity ensue. I can’t wait to watch it on TV!”
Early B’s co-presenter is the renowned foodie and chef Erieda du Toit who also participated in the very popular cooking shows In die sop, Koekedoor en Kokkedoor.
