A trio of fabulous football leagues will take centre stage for SuperSport viewers on DStv, as action from the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A spills onto your screen from Friday 8 to Monday 11 December 2023.

The pick of matches in this round comes from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on the evening of Sunday 10 December, as Spurs play host to Newcastle United. Both teams are looking to break into the established hierarchy in the Premier League and three points in this clash would go a long way toward realising their ambitions.
Newcastle defender Fabian Schar had paid tribute to manager Eddie Howe and the work he has done behind the scenes to foster a great team spirit for the Magpies: “They [Howe and his technical team] made it [getting more from inherited players] possible with the coaching and the way they put this group together.
"The togetherness we have now is down to them. I wouldn't be in the position I am in now if it wasn't for Eddie Howe or the club for bringing him in. I just try to give them everything back.”
The round opens with a potential thriller between Crystal Palace and Liverpool at Selhurst Park on the afternoon of Saturday 9 December, and will be followed by a bevy of late afternoon kick-offs, including Manchester United hosting Bournemouth – with the Cherries looking to pick up an upset result at Old Trafford.
“As a player I had not been able to play in the Premier League and [it] has always caught my attention,” said Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. “It is the greatest challenge to face the best footballers and coaches. I'm happy with my decision [to come to England].”
Saturday closes with former Arsenal manager Unai Emery looking to put one over the Gunners when they visit Aston Villa in Birmingham, while Sunday features Luton Town hosting Manchester City in a classic ‘David vs Goliath’ battle, as well as a potential thriller between Everton and Chelsea at Goodison Park.
SuperSport is the only place where you can get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the pick of matches in this round is the meeting of Barcelona and Girona at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium on the evening of Sunday 10 December.
The Blaugrana are huffing and puffing their way through a title defence, while the Blanquivermells have been one of the revelations of the season and have deservedly earned praise for maximising their potential thus far.
“There is an evolution for me as a coach from being dominant with Rayo in the Second Division to trying it in the First Division, not succeeding, and being sacked,” said Girona manager Michel.
“I have been taking steps forward and this is easier in Girona, due to the support that I have always had from the club and the sports management. And I make mistakes, but they are more or less penalised depending on who is next to you, and in Girona I have been penalised very little because of the support I have.”
The round opens with Getafe looking to get the better of Valencia on Friday night, before Saturday is headlined by Real Madrid visiting Estadio Benito Villamarin for a clash with Real Betis. Los Blancos have looked imperious at times this season, with English midfielder Jude Bellingham playing a major role in their tactical approach.
“I was not at all surprised by the change, but perhaps a little surprised by how quickly he has done what he has done,” said former Real defender Aitor Karanka of Bellingham’s impact. “I played with Figo and Zidane, and even for them it took time. I remember when Zizou arrived, he wasn't as good in the first month or two as he was at Juventus. But with Jude's personality and character, it seems that he has played at Real Madrid for ten years.”
Sunday, aside from the Barca v Girona clash, also features Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao taking on Almeria and Granada respectively, while Monday evening brings a round-closer between Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo at Estadio de Vallecas.
The round of Italian football gets underway with a potential thriller, as Juventus take on Napoli at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on the evening of Friday 8 December. This match pits together the reigning champions, the visiting Partenopei, with one of the teams looking most likely to supplant them.
Yet one of the Achilles heels for the Bianconeri has been their attack, which has struggled to find a rhythm, according to former Serie A star Fabio Bazzini: “Juve does not attack with many players and often leaves the ball to their opponents, because it is their choice of play. Juve is there with this strategy and if it works, it's right that they continue like this and it's useless to say that they don't score from the front, because they still do the same.”
Saturday opens with Lazio facing a trip to Verona in the afternoon, before the evening features both Milanese clubs: AC Milan have a tricky trip to Bergamo to face Atalanta, while Internazionale will be at home to Udinese and looking to further underline their status as one of the favourites to win this season’s championship.
“Inter are stronger today. They are a super team, they play very well. [Manager Simone] Inzaghi is better than [Juventus counterpart Massimiliano] Allegri, he is proving to be a great coach,” said Inter legend Christian Vieri.
He added, “I really like Lautaro [Martinez] and [Marcus] Thuram. Inter drives me crazy, I also like [Federico] Dimarco a lot, he scored a crazy goal against Frosinone. They are all strong players, they play good football.”
Sunday is headlined by Roma taking on Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico, while Monday features two evening games to close the round out, as Empoli and Lecce meet at Stadio Carlo Castellani, before Cagliari host Sassuolo at Venue Unipol Domus.
