It appears Drake might have gotten a little too creative around certain aspects of his upbringing. The rapper, who has been vocal about his parents’ divorce throughout his musical career, has always made it known that his father was not always present in his life.
That narrative got a little shaken up when on his Tuesday, his father claimed the whole story was bogus. Not only has he always been present in his life, but the story arc with him shirking his fatherhood responsibilities during Drizzy’s childhood was a ploy to sell records.
“I had a conversation with Drake about that. I’ve always been with Drake”, Dennis Graham revealed during a recent interview with Nick Cannon. “I have always been with Drake. I talked to him everyday, if not every other day”, he said, delivering a version that runs against many of Drake’s lyrical claims.
When he confronted his superstar son about it, Graham said Drake brought his attention to the commercial benefits of playing along the absent father upbringing narrative, which forms part of the reality for many rappers.
Drake has since responded to the shocking claims, saying he is “hurt” by his father’s comments.
“I woke up today so hurt man”, he wrote in a post shared via his Instagram Stories. “My father will say anything to anyone that’s willing to listen to him. It’s sad when family gets like this but what can we really do that’s the people we are stuck with" (sic)… Adding “every bar I ever spit was the truth is the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
