News
24 February 2020
The Nominees for the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor are a nice mix of old and new school. Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Ramsey Nouah and Nkem Owoh hold it down for the veterans while Remilekun 'Reminisce' Safaru and Pascal Tokodi represent a new wave of actors.
Best Supporting Actor

Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has been Nominated for his role as Ejiro in ‘Seven’, Ramsey Nouah as Richard Williams in ‘Living in Bondage’, Nkem Owoh as Papa Francis in ‘God Calling’, Remilekun 'Reminisce' Safaru as Makanaki in ‘King Of Boys’ and Pascal Tokodi as Otis is ‘Disconnect’. They each did more than just support, they acted their hearts out!

Rolling in the roles

Loving husband, doting father, proud grandfather and best of all, super accomplished actor, RMD is unarguably one of the most famous faces in Nollywood. E be like say the guy no dey get old sha! The man has probably acted in over 100 movies in his lifetime. He has the accolades to match too including Special Recognition Award by Best of Nollywood Awards in 2012 as well as the LifeTime Achievement Award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Do you want him to add more awards to his collection this year? Then vote for him as Best Supporting Actor in 'Seven' here.

Double roles for Ramsey

Ramsey Nouah doubles as supporting actor and director in the highly successful 'Living in Bondage'. He has made history in the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards as the actor with the most nominations. He's going up against Swanky JKA, Timini Egbuson, Efa Iwara and Gabriel Afolayan for Best Actor.  BB Sasore, Niyi Akinmolayan, Kemi Adetiba, Dimeji Ajibola, Akin Omotoso, and Tosin Igho are his co-contenders for Best Director. He's also vying for Best Actor in Comedy with Uzor Arukwe, Stanely "Funny Bone" Chibuna and Daniel Etim Effiong. Is it safe then to say that the odds are looking good for him?

Don't leave to chance if you feel he's deserving. Vote for him here.

No signs of slowing down

Celebrated comedian, scriptwriter and overall Nollywood royalty, Nkem Owoh, has been doing this acting thing for more than half of his life with over three decades of experience spanning an illustrious career. Owoh’s portrayal of Papa Francis in 'God Calling' is archetypal of his roles over the years: he brings humour even to situations that are a little bit more serious. Of his alleged retirement, he says  “I am about to retire, but young movie producers are not allowing me to retire. And that shows that I am still relevant. When the younger generation says come we still need you, it means that there is still something in you that they cherish.”

Reminisce need some convincing

“I wasn’t sure I was gonna pull it off,” declares Remilekun 'Reminisce' Safaru who admits it took being convinced by director Kemi Adetiba to accept the role of Makanaki in the critically acclaimed King Of Boys. Already a veteran in the music industry, he observes that Nollywood is starting to invest in big-budget productions which are certainly piquing his interest in making more movies.

Carrying an entire region on his shoulders

Pascal Tokodi is repping East Africa and more specifically Kenya in the Best Supporting Actor category and he couldn’t be more proud. He’s very aware that competition is tough in this category. He shared that “when I heard that I’m the only actor from East Africa who was nominated I was ecstatic. Then I saw who I had been put up against and I couldn't believe it, people I grew up watching - my mom loves Nollywood movies!” He’s up against Nigerian veterans, Ramsey Nouah, Richard Mofe Damijo, Nkem Owuoh, Ramilekin Safaru and he hopes to take this one home.
