AMVCA Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series)

The AMVCA Best Actor in a Comedy for a Movie or TV Series category is one of the seven publicly decided awards and is sponsored by Amstel Malta. This edition sees strong contenders from productions that are evidence of improving Nollywood standards. Uzor Arukwe, Chibunna "Funny Bone" Stanley, Ramsey Nouah and Daniel Etim Effiong have all been nominated in this category.

Uzor Arukwe gets a double nod

Uzor Arukwe bagged a nomination in the AMCVA 7 Best Actor in Comedy or Movie for his portrayal of Somachi in 'Smash' and that of Jide in 'Size 12'. The versatile actor has worked on so many productions in 2019 that we can’t wait to see what’s in store from one of the top on-screen talents to watch out for as pointed out by Film One Entertainment.

Funny Bone’s safe haven bags him an AMVCA nomination

Chibunna 'Funny Bone' Stanley describes himself as a trained thespian and a grounded theatre practitioner who is best doing anything comedy related. It’s no surprise that his portrayal of Hector in the Yaw produced 'Smash' movie earned him a nomination in the seventh edition of the AMVCAs - his very first! He adds that it feels good to be recognized at last and hopes to grab more challenging roles, while still pushing his stand up comedy game. He's currently on a UK Tour with other decorated comedians including Senator and Basket Mouth.

Ramsey Nouah comes of age

This is one of Ramsey Nouah’s four nominations in the seventh edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. He has also been nominated in Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or TV Series, Best Actor in a Drama Movie or TV Series and Best Movie Director for 'Living in Bondage'. The movie is largely lauded as the most successful commercial production having clocked N125 million at the Box Office in Nigeria.

This Nollywood veteran has almost three decades in the game and he is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, it seems the best is yet to come from the actor who has transitioned from his ‘lover boy’ persona to an accomplished professional who is now enjoying varied roles in the game.

East meets West in Effiong’s first AMVCA nod

Daniel Etim Effiong says he spoke his AMVCA nomination into existence. In the last Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards he said: “this year I’m just a guest but next time I’ll be a winner!” Well, he’s on his way to doing just that after starring in 'Plan B', which has been dubbed the number one Valentine movie in Africa with over 2 million views on YouTube. He credits the success to the chemistry of the cast wherein he stars as Dele Coker, a successful Nigerian CEO based in Nairobi and is expanding in East Africa. He finds himself in a precarious situation after a one night stand with Lisa Waweru – played by Kenyan actress, model, and TV host Sarah Hassan - results in an unplanned pregnancy.

Daniel, with Beverly Naya, also wrote in an AMVCA nominated documentary, 'Skin' which he also directed.

We are pretty dizzy that we have to choose from such a fine selection of accomplished thespians and that's why the job has been left up to the audience.
