Creative Requirements

 

Zambezi Magic (channel 160) is looking for five new film concepts, which depict the authentic African experience. That will allow the audience to escape into a fresh and exciting world.   

 

The concepts/s should touch on interesting universal themes, positive African experiences, while staying true to the specific world it depicts. It should touch on social commentary without being too didactic.

 

This concept should deliver laughter, tears and create an unparalleled emotional connection with the audience. At the core of our new films should be unique and new stories, different from our current slate.

 

Thinking outside of the norm, while staying true to the authentic nuances of the SADC region: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia,

Swaziland and Botswana.

 

  1. The characters should be relatable
  2. The themes should cover real life experiences like love, hope, betrayal etc
  3. The proposed drama should have a unique, fresh and exciting treatment of the above mentioned themes. Replicas of ideas/storylines that already exist are not accepted.
  4. The stories should reflect the true authentic stories of the region.
  5. These concepts should be family friendly and inspirational yet remain rooted in story and encourage appointment viewing.

  • Brief synopsis of the concept, including a Controlling Idea.
  • Dramatic Question, Premise, Logline
  • A statement of intent – why is this series / story important? Why (do you think it) should it be produced?
  • A clear and powerful world of the story.
  • Character biographies for the main characters including their traits, goals, needs and flaws as well an indication of relationships.
  • A summary of the main characters arcs/journeys
  • Proposals should be no longer that 10 pages
  • An estimated budget.

 

Please note that only submissions from the following countries are accepted: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland and Botswana.
