He asks her if he knows the man who fathered her baby, and she says the man was a mistake. He is surprised by the news. His brother reminds Charles that he has his own skeletons in the closet. He has also fathered twins and has been supporting them. This hurts his wife as she is upset that he supported other children, but he was unable to support their child.
