It seemed to be the perfect Bhubesini love story. Dabula and Ntwenhle started out as colleagues on the council and somehow it all turned to love. Unfortunately, Dabula was just unable to let go of his criminal ways and he found himself back in prison. Love does not give up that easily though, so the pair had a crash wedding in jail to ensure their love lasts forever and to get Ntwenhle on the throne as queen.

For the Ngubane elders, this was not enough. Traditions, customs and culture had been overlooked by the star-crossed lovers when they were married in jail. So Dabula was quick to devise a plan for lobola going as far as paying 65 cows, bought with his father’s land, for Ntwenhle. All of this, was still not enough for the Ngubane elders.

It is not yet clear what it is the elders want to accept the young Ndlovu princess as Queen. Is it because she is not royalty? Isi it because she is born of a family that has been involved in a myriad of ill dealing eBhubesini? Or could it be that they are taking chances because Dabula is in prison with no real rights to the throne as Chief.

If that old saying is true and love truly conquers all, then Dabula and Ntwenhle still have a long road ahead of them to get their marriage the Ngubane stamp of approval.

Does Ntwenhle have the making of a queen? Not too long ago she beat up a man at her father’s tavern for saying the cows that had been paid for her lobola were just too much. If a queen beat everyone who dared to question her right to the throne, there would be no one left to rule.
