Idols SA S19 Showstopper article

On Saturday, the number will decrease to seven. These will be the contestants standing before the nation as they prepare to impress in order to make it to the next round: Thabo, Niikiey, Sena, Thando, Princess, Faith, Envic, and Nkosi will carry the heavy load of delivering an extravaganza worthy of the very last Idols SA showstopper.

Performing live at Mosaiek Teatro, the hopefuls running for the number one spot will need to put on the performances of their lives. Even though the music, flames, and dancers will be their supporting acts, their vocals and command of the stage will remain the determining factor for a spot in the competition.

The contestants are fortunate to have seen the big Khaya Mthethwa moment that had Mzansi in a frenzy when he served with Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ in 2012. He set the bar so high that Yanga’s ‘Not Yet Uhuru’, Kevin’s ‘We Dance Again’, Thato’s ‘Mamelani’, and Thapelo’s ‘Di Boya Limpopo’ performances had no choice but to follow suit.

All the spectacular showstopper performances that we’ve seen over the years will make it easy for the remaining contestants to be inspired, and that thought alone makes this last showstopper very exciting.

Seeing as we’re eleven shows in, judges Somizi, JR, and Thembi will be on the lookout for clean performances that showcase how seriously the contestants have been taking the critique they have been receiving in the last few weeks leading up to this moment.

The audience is in for a treat because not only will they get to feast on seven amazing offerings but, making the night sweeter will be a pair that Mzansi never knew it needed. Their single ‘Stimela’, released in 2022, saw Ntate Stunna and Nthabi Sings reach a level of success that is very inspiring and now they are bringing that star quality to the big Idols SA stage.

Who will tear it down and leave us wanting more? We find out this Saturday.
