The biggest names in Mzansi gospel music will perform alongside the Idols SA Top 4 this Sunday!
Ntokozo Mbambo, Idols SA guest

They are Dr Tumi, Dr Rebecca Malope, Benjamin Dube and Ntokozo Mbambo!

We profile ‘real life’ doctor Dr Tumi earlier this year when he was our guest judge in Durban – read all about how he was working on the frontline during lockdown below.

His fellow doctor, Rebecca Malope, is a living legend. “The African Queen of Gospel”, her career spans three decades and 10 million album sales, making her one of the most successful gospel artists ever.

She’s also familiar to TV, having hosted It’s Gospel Time and judging Clash of the Choirs SA. She’s won multiple SAMAs – including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 – and received the Legend Award at the 2019 DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards.

She has honorary doctorates from UKZN and the University of California, and she guested on Idols (alongside the Soweto Gospel Choir) in season 14.

Bishop Benjamin Dube has also been a force in Mzansi gospel music as a solo artist since the ‘80s, but he was in the storied Dube Family Singers in the ‘70s when he was just 12!

His sixteen albums have generally garnered Platinum sales, and he’s the recipient of numerous awards, including a SAMA, a Crown Gospel Music Award and two One Gospel Awards.

Outside of his work in music, he’s a real-life reverend who’s preached alongside Bishop TD Jakes, Kirk Franklin and Israel Houghton, and he spoke at the inauguration of Nelson Mandela.

And finally, Ntokozo Mbambo got her start in music where most did: church. However, she was rather good, and she joined Joyous Celebration when she was just 15!

Since going solo in 2001, she’s also raked up the sales and awards, and she’s shared stages with the globe’s best, including Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin and Cece Winans.
