Nonhlanhla knows that one’s décor can either make or break the entire wedding. That’s why she wanted nothing but the best for her aunt Sibongile (50 years) and uncle Duke (57 years) Bolley on their 28th wedding anniversary.
According to Nonhlanhla, the couple met in 1990. Duke was her grandmother’s driver back in the day and one morning while picking up her grandmother, he spotted Sibongile.
“I was told that immediately after dropping my grandmother at work, uncle Duke called the house and asked to speak to my aunt,” she said.
Nonhlanhla’s mother, who’s Sibongile’s sister chipped in saying their mother was not too keen about the buddying relationship at first.
“Sibongile grew up in the villages and Duke was that street-smart guy from Meadowlands and my mother thought he’d break her heart. As her older sister, I was also too sure about it at first,” she said.
They both laugh as they recall hearing that said Sibongile would sneak out from home to go see Duke and would get a good hiding from the grandmother if she got caught.
Just like any other couple, they have been through some tough times over the years, with Duke losing his job, but they’ve pulled through.
