We recently caught up with this week’s guest Phil Kimemia and this is what he shared with us.

Please give us some background on yourself; where you are from, where you went to school and how you got into music.

I went to Ndurarua Primary School, then to Rungiri High School and later joined Nyeri Polytechnic. I did catering and accommodation management and later specialised in Pastry Level 1 at the IHTI International Hotel & Tourism Institute (IHTI). I grew up in a musical family. My parents used to sing and then my sister Reay Kimemia, taught me how to master harmonies. My inspiration comes from my own experiences, observations, listening critically to other music, reading the Bible and also my dreams and goals.

Which of your songs do you love performing and why?

I love performing “NayoNayo” live! It was my first song and it really means so much to me. It is a constant reminder that I told God that if he’d send me, I wouldn’t hesitate to go out there to do his work.

I have three singles out and these are NayoNayo, Mshindi and Nitatembea Nawe. I have also done a few collaborations; Mfalme wa Moyo Wangu with Janice, Nishatulia with Starborn Favour, Sidonyo featuring Bruz Newton, Nena Nami feautirng Cee, Pokes Sifa  featuring Cate Njane, and last but not least Nadeka Acoustic featuring Guardian Angel.

Please share any career highlights and achievements so far.

I won the ‘Best Male Artist’ award at the 2019 Kenya Gospel Music Awards
