If you can dream it, you can make it!

This week on Maisha Mkanda, we feature young, disadvantaged, adolescent girls living in Nairobi’s slums who have once chance in their lifetime to achieve their dream of traveling to Norway! They were going to participate in the world's largest youth football tournament, the Norway Cup. We followed them as they trained hard to make it to the team that represents Kenya and they did!

The young girls who come from humble beginnings worked hard from the day they were selected as a team and represented Kenya in the 2019 Norway cup tournament and won the title.

Their journey, however, was not an easy one. One of the participants was torn between listening to his father, who wanted her to attend madrassa while her mother wanted her to go for soccer training. Amina's mother recounts how on several occasions she had to cleverly lie to her father that she was going for madrassa but after she left the house, she would go straight to the camp.

Another challenge that the girls also faced when they got to Norway was the culture, especially the food. Despite these challenges, the girls focussed on what took them to Norway — to win the cup.
