Unmasking M3gan

Features that set M3gan apart from other murderous dolls.

She’s terrifying and evil, and her penetrating, icy blue eyes are enough to provoke discomfort. Clothed in a babydoll dress, big bow, skintight T-shirt and tights, meet M3gan, an anthropomorphic life-sized doll who goes on a murderous rampage in the horror film of the same name.

With so many freaky killing dolls – like Chucky and Annabelle – what sets this meticulously crafted, sinister doll apart? For an answer to this question, continue reading.

Double trouble

The role of M3gan is played by two actors, Amie Donald and Jenna Davis. Wearing a prosthetic M3gan mask, Donald performs the movements for her body and Texan actor Davis is responsible for her voice.

Body movements

The production brings M3gan to life using a combination of puppetry, VFX, animation, and a child actor.

Physically realistic, it's creepy!

Unlike other killer dolls, M3gan is physically realistic, which adds to her creepiness. Tiny robotic gears programmed by human puppeteers give the murderous doll her chilly facial expressions. She also has servo motors inside her head, enabling her eyelids, cheeks, lips, eyes, and brows to move.

Slaying while dancing

M3gan breaks into a chilling dance routine before brutally killing someone. In an interview, director Gerard Johnstone said the dance wasn't in the original script, and he snuck the scene into the movie to see if anyone would say anything.

More about her slaying moves here.

Be afraid. Very afraid.
