It’s not only springtime, it’s glam time as your favourite stars get ready to walk down the red carpet and honour the best in South African film and television. The celebrations kick off this Friday 29 September with the Craft Awards, which you can live stream on the SAFTAs YouTube site from 19:00.

The main event takes place on Saturday 30 September at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic, preceded by the red carpet at 19:30 on Channel O. Here are just a few of the reasons you should be tuning in.

Celebrate the nominees
Did the return of the outcasts for Survivor SA’s ninth season put you on the edge of your seat? Were you smacking your lips at every dish Tannie Maria whipped up in Recipes for Love and Murder? Or was it My Kitchen Rules SA and MasterChef SA that inspired you to make something delicious of your own in the kitchen? These are just some of the M-Net shows that have been nominated, so if you want to know if any of them take home a Golden Horn, be sure to tune in or stream the ceremony on Saturday.

Fabulous fashion
The stars will be strutting their stuff as they dress to the nines and smile for the camera, making you drool at all the gorgeous fashion. You’ll also get the chance to celebrate local designers, just before the stars take their seats to celebrate local stories.

The hosts
This year’s main award show hosts are none other than Lawrence Maleka and Zozibini Tunzi. Maleka is a renowned actor known for his roles in Isibaya and The River. He has also co-hosted major reality shows like Big Brother Mzansi and Big Brother Titans. Tunzi is a former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe. Last year she made her acting debut, appearing in the Viola Davis-fronted film The Woman King. Hosting the action on the red carpet are TV presenters Pamela Mtanga and Thabiso Makhubela. Kicking it all off the Friday before at the Craft Awards are Kuhle Adams and Carl Wastie.

The music
Viewers are set for a night of entertainment thanks to a variety of musical acts. Murumba Pitch, Ntokozo Mbambo, Sindi Dlathu, and Jesse Clegg will all be gracing the SAFTAs stage.

Tune in for the main SAFTAs ceremony on Saturday 30 September at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic channel 161 or stream all the glitz and glam on DStv Stream. Join the conversation by using #SAFTAs and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
